Hello, Instructables community.

It's summertime in India. we feel 45-degree temperature normally at the peak of summer.

One day a sparrow was flying around our house to find a place for making a nest. Before this, we already made a nest for sparrows from Plastic bottles.

But Plastic is not suitable for hot summer days and is more congested inside for birds.

Then my brother and I explored material for a man-made bird house that is easy to find and a cooler place for birds in the summertime.

We find Cardboard from waste boxes is a good material for making birdhouses because it's lighter, good for air ventilation, and has more space for birds, allowing us to make custom space for birds.

Have a look at our bird nest which we can make from cardboard, Adhesive, and some tapes.

Let’s build a Cardboard Bird nest and save Birds.🐀🐀🐀

  • We collect material from waste boxes of shoe boxes, electronic appliance boxes, etc.
  • You will use any cardboard box that suits your imaginable nest.
  • We made this by imaging 3 or 4 sparrows in one nest.
  • We use amazon delivery boxes for our use.
  • The dimension of the box is around 10 inches x 8 inches x 8 inches.

Cutting According to Requirement

  • In our box, we cut 2 entrances in size or 3 x 3 inches for just the sparrow to come inside.
  • Other big size birds will not enter the sparrow's nest.
  • In addition, you will cut air ventilation holes on both sides of the box.

Finalize and Use Tape

  • After cutting the entrance and air ventilation holes we need to close and pack all sides of the box to ensure any side of the box will not collapse to the weight of the bird.
  • Use paper tape or plastic tape for each corner and top/bottom center to close all sides.

Use 3M Tape

  • For Summer time and For the protection from the rain we find a place below Lintel(A beam over the top of a window.). This place saves birds from extreme heat exposure and rainy conditions.
  • We use 3M Double-sided tape to stick this nest Below Lintel.
  • Find a smooth surface, stick adhesive double-sided tape on the top and back side of the Box, pill out all paper from the tape, and stick the box below Lintel.

Find Place for Birds

  • We place our box below Lintel for birds.
  • It's done. You are one step closer to saving birds.
  • Just wait for the sparrow to find your Cardboard Bird nest and birds will be there to live inside.
  • In our Bird nest, 2 sparrows were living, after that, they placed an egg and now they're a family of three living inside.
