I really like cardboard as a material for my projects. Its easy to work with and can be found everywhere!

As I was scrolling through pinterest I came across an amazing cardboard artist, Monami Ohno and really liked the nike shoes she made. I really wanted to make something similar and after a few other cardboard projects I tried making my own shoes. (one shoe because i run out of cardboard) The idea was to make converse all star because I thought it would be simpler to make.

The other two unfinished projects are the two above:

  1. arcade machine 2.functional button

Supplies

I don't have a supplies picture for this project but the things I used are

  • Hot glue
  • Cardboard (of various types)
  • String

The first thing I did was to trace a flip flop and cut it out of a hard cardboard. Later I had to go back and do it again and change the tracing because a shoe sole is different than a flip flop.

I also cut the same shape out of a hexagonal cardboard and glue the two pieces together to make the sole thicker.

Later I added a strip of bendable cardboard surrounding the sole to add support material for the rest of the build.

With a long piece of thin cardboard I made the sides of the shoe.

Using thin cardboard again, I made the tongue of the shoe. It's made up of two pieces, the main part and the toe cap which I cut on the edges to glue later.

I connected the shoe to the tongue and cut holes for the laces.

Finishing Touches

I added washers around the holes and used white string for the laces.

It didn't turn out as good as I wanted but its a good start.
