Hello!

First of all, I would like to thank you for clicking on my Instructable. This is the homemade Cardboard 2x2 Rubik's cube. It's fully functional and it is a great pass time.

Supplies

  • 24 circular magnets
  • Template
  • All-purpose glue
  • Hot glue
  • X-acto knife or scissors
  • Cardboard

Print the Template

Glue on Cardboard

Now that you have printed the templates, we must glue the papers on top of the single-ply cardboard. This task is simple, and honestly I don't have to explain how you have to do this.

Cut Out the Template

Now we have to cut out the template, but I recommend that you glue everything well so then the paper will not ruin the cutting and make the job harder.

Make Sure to Place the Magnets Correctly

On the template there is a sign for magnets, that's where the magnets need to go. Hot glue the magnets in the correct position or you can look at the picture above if you don't understand.

There's a negative and positive side for magnets, and if you don't pay attention the project will not go as planned: There's an image above for that.

Assemble the Boxes

Now that we have the magnets glued on with the right magnetic poles, we can start the cube assembly. This job is really simple, just fold the boxes and at the same time glue the box together like a regular paper box.

  • A small tip that I can give you is to draw faintly with a pencil a darker side for positive sides of magnets and a brighter side for the negative ( or the other way around), it can help during the actual assembly, when trying to build the actual cube.

Cube Assembly

After assembling the boxes, you are almost done! Now we are ready to construct the actual cube.
In the image above it shows how to correctly fully assemble the cube.

Glue on the Stickers

After the assembly of the cube, the next step is to glue on the "stickers". It isn't difficult but there's a specific order for the colors of a Rubik's cube, so above there is a color guide to help with the "stickers".

Admire Your Creation!
