Cold Feet No More, Carbon Fiber Heated Quilt

This instruction is to make a heated quilt for winter months. The idea is to use the Carbon Fiber tape and connected this to the power source, which can be a battery or power supply.

According to the specification, the ideal situation for the 15mm carbon fiber tape to reach 60 degree Celcius, we need the the current of approx 0.8 A. Using the ohms law : V= IR,

Where V = voltage, I = current and R is the resistance, we can derive that using the 12V source, we will get R= 12/0.8 = 15 ohm.

The resistance of the 115mm carbon fiber tape is about 17 ohm/meter.

Thus the length of carbon fiber tape required = 15/17=0.88 meter.

For this project, you will need the following material:

1. 210 m of Carbon fiber you can get the 15 mm width.

2. Battery holder case for Li-ion with PCM protection circuit

3. 3.6V 2900mAh rechargeable Li-ion batteries (x4)

4. Connection wire

In this instance I am using the Queen Size quilt cover. The measurement of the queen size quilt cover is 210cmx210cm.

We are going to sew the carbon fibre tape to the bottom of the quilt. In this instance I am using the 210 cm.

Take good care to sew the end to the conducting cable.

Sew both end of the carbon fibre to the Wire.

Then connect both end of the wire to the battery pack, and enjoy the warmth it brings to your feet during the cold winter months.

A few modification can be added:

- Adding a switch to the circuit so that you can turn it on and off.

- Swap the battery with adaptor so that you can plug it to the main power source.

- Connected with timer controller that warms up your quilt before going to bed.
