Car Vent Phone Holder

I made this to create a simple, fully 3D-printed phone holder that clips onto a car vent without any extra parts.

Supplies
This project is a simple, fully 3D-printed phone holder designed to clip securely onto your car’s air vent. It requires no additional hardware—just some PLA filament and a 3D printer. It’s perfect for minimalists or anyone who wants a lightweight and reliable solution for holding their phone in the car.

Print Each Part

To get started, you’ll need standard PLA filament in any color you like. A typical FDM 3D printer with a 0.4mm nozzle will work perfectly. In your slicer software, set the layer height to 0.2mm for a good balance between detail and strength. The infill should be set to 100% to ensure maximum durability, especially for the clip section. Print speed should be around 60mm/s. Make sure to enable supports, particularly for any overhangs on the clip area, and adding a brim is a good idea to help with bed adhesion.
Attach the Parts

Once you've sliced and printed the parts, you should have a few key components: a vent clip piece that attaches to the car’s vent slats, one or two arms that will hold the phone, and optionally, a back support that helps cradle the phone more securely. Assembly is super straightforward—just snap the arms into the designated slots on the clip. They should be snug but slightly flexible to grip the phone properly. If you're using the back support, slot it into place so it lines up with the arms to provide a stable resting surface for your phone.
Install the Phone Holder

With the parts assembled, gently slide the clip onto one of your car's air vent slats. It should grip tightly but not damage the vent. Once installed, try placing your phone in the holder to check the fit and make any slight adjustments. If the clip is a bit too tight or too loose, you can go back and reprint just that part, scaling it by a small percentage in your slicer.
This holder is designed to work with most standard horizontal or vertical vent slats. The phone size it supports can be adjusted in your CAD software before printing if needed. If you want to make it your own, consider editing the STL file to include a logo or your name on the back.
