Car Phone Holder Version 2 (not That Easy) With Popsicle Sticks

I will make a car phone (or tablet or gps) holder or mount

that bites the air vents of the car dashboard.

Using popsicle sticks and a binder clip. And PVA (or wood) glue.

• Popsicle sticks,
• wooden cubes (15x15 mm),
• a binder clip,
• wood glue (or pva glue).

Nice to have:

utility knife to cut the popsicle sticks,

cloth pegs to use as clamps for the glue joints

what is going to bite the car airvents? A binder clip !

I use pliers to bend the wires as shown in the pictures.

You will ask why bend them like this? You will understand why later on or betten in the end.

The body of the car phone holder will be made of

popsicle sticks and wood cubes (15x15 mm).

I use wood glue (or pva glue) for all the wood-to-wood joints.

I show no dimensions and measurements since the body of the holder

can be made according to the size of your device (tablet, gps, etc).

What is specific is the next step.

Now i show how the wire is secured into the wood.

I use three cut pieces of popsicle stick to secure the wire (snug so that it does not rattle at all).

One in the middle and two for the side support.

Glueing order:

1. glue the top two cubes.

2. Glue the wire supports (pieces of popscicle stick) on the previous cubes (so that the wire fits snug).

3. Put the wire and glue the bigger popsicle part on top of the three supports.

4. Glue the third cube.

Glue work is finished. I will assemble the binder clip and we are done.
Now you see why i bent the wires of the clip in this specific way.

Note:

If you follow exactly the steps, you see it is not necessary to glue the black part of

the binder clip onto the structure as it fits snug and does not move.

If you want to do so you can use specific glue for wood to metal joint (construction adhesive or epoxy glue).
