Hello my name is Jon. Today I am going to show you how to quickly remove an old battery from your vehicle. I’ve been doing battery changes all my life. People tend to think it is hard or scary to do but with me showing you these simple steps, it will take you less than 5 minutes!
Tools/Materials Need
Battery ratchet set (can get at a local parts store), Battery terminal cleaner, baking soda mixed with water, brush.
Hazards
Reversing the positive and negative cables can cause electric shock! Battery acid
Open hood of vehicle and locate battery. Typically, it is located in the engine bay. If not refer to the owner’s manual.
Locate the positive and negative cables on the battery terminals. If they are damaged cables, then replace if necessary.
Remove the Negative cable nut FIRST by using the ratchet and socket set. Make sure it is the negative cable being removed first to avoid and electric.
Slowly loosen the cable enough to wiggle it off the terminal post so it doesn’t crack. If cracked be careful not to tip battery over to leak battery acid out.shock.
Apply step 3-4 to the positive cable side.
Once both cables are removed then remove the bracket bar holding the battery in place. Loosen nut or bolt to remove.
Take Battery out of vehicle and set it on the ground. Mix water and baking soda together. Clean battery cables with brush and baking soda mixture. Let dry
Install new battery. Make sure to put on the positive cable in first then the negative! Tighten nuts back up snug so cables won’t fall off. Tighten nut or bolt bracket back on battery. Turn vehicle on to make sure new battery works.
