Design 4 everyone - add-ons for walker

This project is a collaboration between disciplines from Howest University in Kortrijk (Belgium). You can check the rest of the projects of D4E1 at designforeveryone.howest.be. Our team members are:

Britt De Beule (Occupational Therapy)

Arthur Bekaert (Industrial Design)

Doğan Mert Güven (Industrial Design)

Together with rollator users, we looked for problems with their rollators. Roger (our client) uses a tripod cane that does not fit in the standard holder of his walker. This prevents him from taking his cane with him. After some consultation with our client, we chose to design a cane holder that fits his personal cane.

The holder was designed specifically for his walker. He uses a Taima M GT rollator. Because of the large round shape, the tripod cane fits easily into it. We use an existing bolt from the rollator to attach it.

Printing the Parts

The cane holder consists of two parts, a bracket that is mounted around the frame of the rollator and the round holder itself. The reason for this is to make printing easier since no support is needed this way.

Both parts can be printed in one go as the image above shows. The parts require no support to print. Everything is printed at a resolution of 0.2 and an infill of 50%.

Assembling the Cane Holder
