Candle Holder
This was a super quick and fun project that I made from scrap materials. I designed it to fit tapered glass candles that are readily available from online or your local big box store.
Tools/Materials
Tools:
- Table Saw
- Drill Press
- 1 7/8" Hole Saw or Forstner Bit
- Router
- Sander
- Wood Clamps
- Tape Measure
- Pencil
Materials:
- Wood: 15" Long x 3" Wide x 5/8" Thick
- Wood: 3" Long x 1" Wide x 1" Thick
- Wood Glue
- Danish Oil
- Candles
Drawings
You will be building to these drawings. Detailed drawings are shown at the appropriate steps.
Base
Cut the main board down to 15" x 3".
Holes
Drill the holes per the drawing shown in the previous step. I used a 1 7/8" Forstner Bit but a hole saw would work equally as well.
This video has nothing to do with the project - just me playing with a slow motion while drilling a hole.
Chamfers
It's a pretty straightforward project. I added chamfers around the holes and along the edges to give it a slightly more decorative touch.
Feet
Cut the feet to the size shown. I picked a contrasting wood to give it more character.
The feet could just be glued on but I thought having them recessed in the base was nicer looking. The router was used for the slots. I used wood glue and wood clamps to attach.
Completed Candle Holder
It was sanded with 220 grit paper and treated with Danish Oil.
Candles
These candles were purchased at Target. Adjust your dimensions accordingly if you have different size candles.
CAD Images
I tend to geek things out but this did show me that the candles would fit correctly before cutting the wood.
Finished Pictures
Here are two pictures with candles. The taper on the glass holds the candles in a nice position as predicted by CAD. I'm happy with how it turned out.
