Canadian Pulled Pork
This pulled pork recipe is a creation of my own; a uniquely Canadian way of serving pulled pork using 100% pure maple syrup. Delightfully sweet and spicy like honey garlic pulled pork it is a dish for the whole family to enjoy.
Supplies & Ingredients for Pulled Pork.
Crock Pot
2 Forks
A Sharp Knife
Cutting Board
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 pound pork roast 3 pound if bone in
1 cup Maple Syrup
1 cup Chicken Broth
1 cup Green Onion, diced
2 cups diced Tomato
2 cups diced Celery
2 cups diced Mushrooms
2 Sweet Bell Peppers
1 large clove of Garlic, crushed and diced
1 tablespoon Chili Powder
1 tablespoon Cumin
1 teaspoon Thyme
½ teaspoon black pepper
Ingredients to Serve
Kaiser Buns or Tortillas
Grated Cheese
Shredded Lettuce
Sliced Tomato
Sliced Onions
Directions
Prep time 15 minutes
Cook time 5 to 6 hours
Pour the vegetable oil into the bottom of a slow cooker.
Place the pork roast into the slow cooker; if you use a boneless roast like ribeye or tenderloin, you might want to cut the pork roast across the grain to make the pulled pork strips shorter.
Pour in the Maple syrup and chicken broth.
Stir in the chili powder, thyme, cumin, and black pepper.
Dice and add the green onions, garlic, tomato, celery, mushrooms, and bell peppers.
Cover and cook on High until the roast shreds easily with a fork, 5 to 6 hours.
Shred the Pork Roast
Remove the roast from the slow cooker, and shred the meat using two forks.
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, and stir the meat into the juices.
Simmer for another 30 minutes.
To Serve
Toast the inside of both halves of the Kaiser buns.
Placed the Kaiser buns on a cookie sheet cut side up.
Set the oven on broil.
Place the cookie sheet on the top rack of the oven and toast the buns in the oven until lightly browned.
Spoon the pulled pork onto the toasted buns.
Sprinkle with the grated cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, sliced onion, and serve.
Canadian Pulled Pork on Tortillas
This pulled pork recipe goes great on tortillas.
Place the tortilla on a plate.
Making sure to place the pulled pork from the top of the tortilla to the center of the tortilla; spoon the pulled pork onto the untoasted tortillas just as you do to the Kaiser buns.
Sprinkle with the grated cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and sliced onion.
Fold the bottom of the tortilla up first then the two sides over the top.
Once folded you can serve as is or braze the tortillas to your liking.
