Camping 6 Gallon Water Container Faucet

This idea is all thanks to my dad who originally thought of this idea when we were doing a lot of camping with the Boy Scouts. I have taken his idea and recreated it, using a Igloo Cargo II 6-Gal Water Container and added a out door faucet to it.

Materials Needed

• 1 6 gallon water container
• 1/2 inch pvc union threaded on the inside
• 1/2 inch Hose Bib
• 1 flat rubber washer
• Thread Seal Tape
• Paper Towel or other material to keep from ruining the pvc

Tools Needed

• 2 pairs of channel lock pliers

Here is a image of all the materials that I used for this project minus the water jug and the cap that is on the water jug.

The PVC union comes apart into 3 separate pieces. The piece that I used is on the bottom of the picture. The bottom of pvc union part is smooth and the inside of it is threaded. The other 2 pieces you can put up and use for another project.

You will take your Cap from the Igloo Water Container and remove the pipe that came with it. The part of the PVC union does fit nicely into the cap of the water container. I have take some pictures to show how the pvc union fits into the cap.

Make sure to use the thread seal on the hose bib so it won't leak when you have water in the water container.

I used a per towel to put around the pvc to help minimize the damage to the pvc union.

After I wrapped a paper towel around the pvc union. Used channel lock pliers to tighten everything down.

1 plier i used on the pvc union and the other I used on the hose bib.

Now that the hose bib is attached tightly. I had to find some washers that would work. I found this bag of washers at home depot. The biggest flat washer in the bag worked perfectly. Just insert the washer into the cap so water doesn't leak out.

Now that I had put everything together and added the washer. It was time to test for leaks. I added water to my 6 gallon water container, then put the lid on it. I wiped the water container clean so there was no water on the outside of the container so I could verify it wasn't leaking. Since I didn't see any water leaking from it. I decided to open it up and watch some of the water come out from the faucet part.

I hope this helps someone looking for a camping water container, or just want to use something like this around the house. So far this works better than any of the other water containers with water spouts that I have used.
