Campfire Apple Crisp
This is a Campfire Apple Crisp. I make it over a campfire but it could also be done over a grill. When I make it I find it serves four people.
Supplies
Aluminum foil
If making to be cooked at home, use 3 bowls
If being brought camping, use 3 containers or sealable bags
Ingredients:
3 apples
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
1/6 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3/8 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Prepare Ingredients
Peel and slice the apples and put those in a container or bag with the lemon juice. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in another container. Combine the oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, and oil in a third container.
Prepare Fire or Light the Grill
If using a grill, heat it up to about 375 degrees Fahrenheit or get a good coal base if you are using a fire.
Create Foil Boat
Fold the foil to be about 6 by 8 inches and 1 1/2 inches deep or large enough to have the apples spread in a layer that is no more than halfway up the sides. Make the boat with at least two layers of foil.
Assembly
Combine the cinnamon sugar and apples and pour into the foil boat, cover the apples with the flour and oat mixture. Cover the apple crisp tightly with foil and cook over coals in a campfire. (Don’t put directly over flames.)
Cook
Let the apple crisp cook for about 40 minutes on a campfire or 30 minutes on a grill or until top is just caramelizing. If cooking over a campfire rotate the apple crisp occasionally to make sure it cooks evenly.
Enjoy!
Take the apple crisp off the heat, let it cool, and eat!
