Cable Management Hooks

Hi!

This is a rather simple but elegant solution for managing the nasty bundle of cables you probably have under your desk, or worse, on top of it!

I wanted to improve my home office a bit so I designed these simple hooks using tinkercad (hence the goofy file name) and printed them om my Prusa i3 mk2.5. Beside a desk to mount them on, all you need is:

Supplies

  • Screwdriver, I recommend electric but if you don't have one of those, just use a hand-powered one.
  • Some screws, make sure they aren't too long so they pierce all the way through the desk
  • You may need a small drill bit or two, depending on your screws and your desk.

Print the Hooks

Use the supplied STL file to print the hooks, I used 30% infill to save some time but the stiffer the better! I used AddNorth E-PLA.

I designed them so you don't need to use any support, If you really want to you can improve the design by adding a flange and another screw hole on the opposite side to increase the load it can carry. But they work just fine for me as they are!

Mount the Hooks

Find a good spot for your clunky extender or where many wires run and attach the hook with a screw. My desk is made by my favorite Swedish flat package furniture company so the material is not solid wood but rather some sort of softer composite. If that is the case for you as well, just screw right into it. If you have a desk made of harder material, you may need to pre-drill a hole first.

The screws I had laying around were perfect for the hole in the hook but if you have a bigger one, you may need to bore up the hole in the printed hook a bit first.

I mounted two hooks at the places where I want my branched extender and a single hook on places where I just wanted to hide the cable.

This little project really improved my working environment at home so I hope it will be an improvement for your office or hacker den!

Good luck and please feel free to ask a question or comment if you think I should have done anything differently.
