C.R.E.W Physical Arcade Cabinet
I was in charge of the physical fabrication of our team's arcade cabinet. The cabinet went through three different variations before finally settling on the final version.
Supplies
Adobe Illustrator
FSL PS24 P-Series laser Cutting and Engraving System
Retina Engrave 3 software
Cardboard
1/4'' plywood
Hot glue gun
Masking tape
Cabinet Planning
I first designed the model by discussing it with my teammates about a shape that would relate to our theme of lights and sound. Then I built a small cardboard model that displayed how our game would function. I then built a 3D model of the cabinet in tinkercad with all the pieces to scale. The original idea of the cabinet and base being two separate pieces.
Cardboard Model
I then laser-cut the cabinet out with cardboard but not the base. However, I forgot to resize the pieces so the model was a few inches smaller than it was supposed to be. Also, because the model was smaller the tabs did not fit when I hot-glued the model together so I had to use masking tape as well. Attached is the cabinet model ai file.

Cardboard Model V2
The second cardboard model that I laser-cut out included both the cabinet and the base as it showed in the original plans. However, when I completed hot gluing the model it turned out that the model was too large and took up too much space. So I had to change the sizes in my next model. Attached is the cabinet model ai file.

Cardboard Model Final
The final cardboard model I laser-cut out had many changes to it from the original idea. For the cabinet, the changes were that the side fins were removed and most of the unnecessary space in the back was removed. The base was reduced drastically in size and its height was cut in half, from 6'' to 3''. Attached are the ai files.
Final Cabinet
For the final cabinet, I laser-cut the 1/4'' plywood. I then used industrial hot glue to glue the plywood together. Also to make the cabinet and base look like one piece I laser cut out hooks that I glued to the back of the base. This would connect to the cabinet by a piece of wood with holes in them where the hooks would be inserted into. To cover up the empty space in front of the base I laser cut out a black paper material and then glued it to the front of the base. Attached are the ai files. Notes of my work are on the pictures if you click on them.
