COVID Flyer

This bad boy can't save you from illness, but it can save you from wretched boredom!

For this project, you need cardboard, tape, a cutting utensil, binder clips, a rubber band, a propeller, and access to a printer.

First, print off the provided file and tape the paper to your cardboard.

Next, cut along the lines. Only cut the outside of each part, except for the two rectangles in the biggest piece.

Now tape the paper cut outs with extra lines to their designated parts. These extra lines will be used to help in assembling the plane.

The first step to assembling is to put the large rectangle into its spot in the main body piece. Line it up inside the extra lines on the rectangle piece.

Next, put one wing on each side of the rectangle piece, lining up the rectangle in the provided lines. assure that the curves of the wings are facing forward on the plane.You can tape around the wings and rectangle piece so they will not fall off. You will also put the tail wing in its designated spot and tape it to the main body.

Now you must cut a slit in the tip of the plane so that you can slide the propeller on. Make sure that the part that will go inside the propeller is small enough to fit inside but big enough to be snug. once you fit it on the tip, you can tape around it so it will not fall off.

Next, take your rubber band and tie each side to a half of a binder clip. the smaller the binder clip the better as to not mess with the weight of the plane. After it is tied, slip the middle of the rubber band into the circular metal piece of the propeller. next, attach the binder clip to the bottom of the plane far enough from the front as to create light tension in the rubber band.

My plane was not flying quite how i wanted so I added a few extra clips to each wing to try and even out the balance more. This may take a bit of experimentation to get correct because the methods of cutting, assembling, and the materials might differ slightly.

Lastly, wind your propeller and throw your plane to let it fly. Be sure to twist your propeller in such a way that it causes air to go towards your wings and not in front of the plane.
