Description
CO-0K is a droid that is designed to prepare and serve food for all creatures in the Star Wars Universe. CO-0K’s pivot ball allows for multi-directional, tight movement in high-traffic areas such as crowded ships, resistance bases, narrow alley kitchens, and more. The pivot ball also allows for CO-0K to prepare food in a very small space, as wide turns are not necessary. The front of the droid features a large oven intended to cook iconic Star Wars foods such as Roast Porg (as enjoyed by Chewie) and Yoda’s stew, as well as general baking, roasting, and broiling of all other desired foods (controlled by the panel above the oven). The drawer directly underneath the oven takes advantage of the heat emitted from the oven and functions as a warming and storage drawer for holding already prepared foods that may need to retain their heat. Vents to let out excess heat from the oven are shown on the exterior of the droid in two locations. CO-0K also has a variety of slots and openings for holding foods that do not need to be prepared such as Rey’s bread powder, the slew of fresh fruits shown throughout the movies, and other small items such as herbs and spices. On the backside of CO-0K, there are two glass containers holding water and the iconic blue milk (labeled in Aurebesh). Two metal taps on the side of CO-0K allow for creatures or CO-0K to hold either button (blue for water, white for milk) to dispense either liquid. The water has a variety of uses such as drinking, creating Rey’s bread, cooking, washing fruit, etc., while the blue milk is largely intended for drinking. Finally, the helmet adorning CO-0K is a detachable magnetic plate and bowl with handles that can be used by either CO-0K for preparing meals or to serve food with. CO-0K also has two arms, designed with flexible movement in mind, complete with two textured rubber grippers for hands. Rubber is an ideal cooking material, as it can withstand high-heat, allows for a strong, non-slip grip of cooking utensils, is easy to clean, and is cheap to replace when necessary. The design of CO-0K was inspired by a mix of influences including the classic distressed, yet functional droid appearance (aesthetic), a traditional pizza oven (shape), and by the clean, sleek appearance of a chef coat (color of droid is white for this reason). Small details such as the etching of an apron in grooves on the front of the droid demonstrates the droid’s purpose of preparing meals for creatures throughout the Star Wars Universe.
