CHICK IN EGG CRAFT: Made From MDF

I had the pleasure of seeing about 100 of these little guys come to life at a local Easter Egg Hunt last year. I created the pattern and luckily had some friends and neighbors help with cutting, sanding, and priming. And then we let the children loose and the results were hysterical. All the same supplies but each one seemed to have its own personality.

SUPPLIES:

From the Wood Shop:
JigSaw
MDF board - 1/4 inch for the egg shell and 1/2 inch for the chick
Drill and Drill Bits

From the Craft Room:
White gloss paint
Yellow gloss paint
Google eyes
Orange craft foam
Yellow feathers
glue
ribbon

THE PATTERN:

For simplicity, I used the straight edge of a piece of paper and drew a simple cracked egg. I placed this pattern on the straight edge of the thin MDF board's straight edge and traced two.

The chick is also cut with a straight edge for the bottom. The chick is basically an oval. I used a thicker MDF for the chick.

The egg shells each get two drill holes for the ribbon to go through.

Sand and prime.

PAINTING, GLUING, and RIBBON:

Paint the chick and the egg shell. You will probably have to do more than one coat.

Cut a triangle out of the orange craft foam.

Glue on eyes, beak and the feathers.

Once you string the ribbon through, and you should follow the pictures for directions on how to do this, then you are done.

I have plans to make a giant one of these in the near future.
