CAT-CHAIR:A Rocking Chair Design That Can Accommodate 3 Cats
Imagine how pleasant it would be to sit in a rocking chair and cuddle with cats! But I'm a student(St Margarets episcopal school), and I still have to study! So, I want to design a rocking chair called CAT-CHAIR, for me and my three cats to use together, where everyone has their own space and doesn't disturb each other. The cats can sleep while I program on my laptop, and we will all be happy. (Does programming really make people happy?)
Supplies
Fusion360 and 3d-printer
Create Initial Sketch
- Reference image: Use a funny picture of a black cat as a reference.
- Chair dimensions: Ensure the chair is suitable for my height and weight.
- Sketch: Draw the initial design of the chair on paper, including the outline of the rocking chair and the cat resting areas.
- Shapes and sizes: Determine the shapes and sizes of the chair back, seat, armrests, and the bottom of the rocking chair.
- Cat resting areas: Design three resting areas for the cats, ensuring they are independent and do not interfere with each other.
Create Basic Structure in Fusion 360
- Chair back and seat: Use the "Sketch" tool to outline the chair back and seat, then use the "Extrude" tool to create 3D shapes. Copy this 12 times to form the main structure of the chair.
- Add armrests: Sketch the armrests and extrude them to the appropriate positions.
- Create rocking chair base: Draw the arc of the rocking chair base and extrude it into a 3D shape.
- Determine locations: Identify three positions under the chair back and seat for the cat resting areas.
- Design resting areas: Use the "Sketch" tool to outline the resting areas and adjust the curves and sizes of these recessed regions.
- Add cushioning: Add cushion shapes within each resting area using the "Extrude" tool to create a soft padding effect and determine the approximate size of the cushions.
Optimize Details
- Reinforce structure: Ensure the rocking chair is structurally sound by adding support rods or thickening key parts.
- Smooth edges: Use the "Chamfer" tool to smooth all edges, ensuring safety and aesthetics.
- Select wood: Choose appropriate wood materials in Fusion 360 and apply them to the chair model.
- Add textures: Add cushion textures to the cat resting areas to make them more realistic.
- Prototype: In the future, you can create a prototype of the chair based on the technical drawings. Having a cat at home will also benefit, as cats always love having more places to sleep.
By following these steps, you can design a comfortable and practical wooden rocking chair using Fusion 360. I hope these steps are helpful to you!
