CARDBOARD CAR VISOR EXTENDER

CARDBOARD EXTENDER - #1.JPG

Do you get annoyed with the sun beaming straight into your eyes near sundown because your car's visor won't go down far enough? And are you also extra sensitive to light and really struggle to see in the bright sun, and not even your sunglasses help? Well, that's me. I bought one of those TV extender's that arrived broken in the mail and had a bad design anyway. Of course I returned it. About a year later, an idea suddenly popped into my head, and I made it and attached it in minutes. You just need a strong piece of cardboard and Stick-On Velcro. Nothing could be easier and faster to make yourself, and it really works! Just be aware that I am a really short person, which surely affects the size and location of attachment on your visor. So only use my photos and measurements as a basic guide, and be sure to customize the size and placement for you personally.

Supplies

A strong piece of cardboard, (use it either plain, or you could color it somehow).

Craft Scissors

Stick-on Velcro

Ruler, if needed

GATHER SUPPLIES, STUDY PHOTOS, & PREPARE CARDBOARD & PLACEMENT

Study the photos and gather the supplies (a strong piece of cardboard, craft scissors, stick-on velcro, ruler if needed).

Prepare and cut a strong piece of cardboard: NOTE: If you like, you could color the cardboard some way, but I did not do that.

I cut the cardboard to be 8½ inches by 5½ inches, but you can play with the size. NOTE: I am a very short person; the placement and size of the cardboard piece may depend on your height:

So, while sitting in the driver's seat, pull down your car visor and audition where to position the cardboard extender piece, and visually note where would be the best placement for attaching to your car visor for keeping the sun out of your eyes, either with the visor pushed back or moved more forward.

ATTACH THE CARDBOARD EXTENDER PIECE TO THE CAR VISOR

Cut a piece of stick-on Velcro and attach it to the back-side of the cardboard. Make sure it will fit onto the visor after the Velcro is in place.

NOTE: My car visor has a mirror, and so I opened it before attaching the cardboard and closed the mirror down over the cardboard during the attachment process. Closing the mirror down over the cardboard also helps keep it in place, but I can still use a little of the mirror.

I cut one long strip of stick-on Velcro to place near the bottom of the cardboard. I cut one or two smaller pieces of Velcro to put higher up on the sides of the cardboard, to help keep the top and bottom of the cardboard more flat-ish, and in place.

USE YOUR NEW EXTENDED VISOR

After attached, move your new extended car visor up and down to position it better, depending on where the sun is in your eyes, (which of course changes throughout the day). It works great for me!
