CNC machine in my shop. I used Vcarve as the software. Line up your scraps and proceed to the next step.

Even Glows in Full Light.

Collect Material

CA Sign 1.jpg

Start by collecting scraps of any kind of wood.

Arrangement

CA Sign 2.jpg

Arrange your selection to whatever suits your style. Thick, thin, colorful...

More Strips

Cut more strips to add natural colors. As it was, all of these scraps were taken from old pallets and repurposed.

Overlay

Overlay the new strips and mix in with the old. There is no wrong way for this look.

Next, you will need a backing to glue all the strips to.

Rearrange One More Time

Rearrange just to make sure you like the style.

Adhesion

Then glue down the strips and clamp in place. This can be time consuming due to the varying heights of the individual strips.

Cutting

Cut out the outline CA map. I used a CNC with specific software but this is not needed. A simple handsaw and finishing dremel tool will suffice.

Backlight It

Order LEDs ($15 for for 15 feet on Amazon). These are self adhesive and work great. Even comes with a remote and a dozen color themes to choose from. Now go hang it and enjoy!
