Description
This is the C1-M3R4 or Chimera droid. Like the mythological beast the C1-M3R4 droid is a combination of parts from astromech and medical droids. I started creating a backstory for this little droid as I got to discover the world of Star Wars for the first time due to this contest. I had never watched Star Wars before, until my professor (Hi professor Spencer!) recommended my class to do this contest. I wanted to learn all I could about droids so I started watching everything! I fell in love with the story of Anakin building C-3P0, and felt like a similar story fit my droid. Built from scraps from and R2 unit, a C1 unit, and some medical droid parts, the Chimera droid is perfect for a multi-purpose droid for those small spacecrafts. Chimera is able to repair ships as well as help address minor medical events. I felt like C1-M3R4 would be a younger child’s passion project, that they were building for themselves so they could be taken care of while soaring among the stars. The painted details on the droid made it feel more personal to me, like how I love putting stickers on everything, I feel a young pilot would decorate their droid like that.
This was only the second time I’ve ever used Maya and my first time animating in the program. I am super happy with how the droid came out even if I could not figure out how to texture properly.
I loved falling in love with the world of Star Wars, and cannot wait to relax after this model with watching Acoltye.
