Butterfly Cork Clock
Hi there!
Today we'll be making a wall mounted, butterfly themed clock from a cork coaster. Let's get started!
Materials
- Cork coaster
- Clock mechanism
- Butterfly stencil
Positioning the Stencil
Determine where you want to have the butterfly cut out. Use a glue stick to attach the stencil to the cork. Make sure you measure where your clock mechanism should come. The mechanism and the stencil should not overlap.
Cut Out
We used a scrollsaw to cut out the butterfly stencil. The hole in the middle was drilled with a drill bit with the same size as the clock mechanism's center. Once the butterfly has been cut out, you can use some high grit sand paper to smooth everything out.
Placing the Clock Mechanism
The clock mechanism that I had did not have a long enough shaft to protrude trough the thickness of the coaster. I used a ball nosed chisel to cut out a spot for the mechanism to sit in.
Assembling the Mechanism
Follow the instructions that come with your clock mechanism set, it is pretty straight forward.
And We're Done!
I will use the cut out butterfly to hang above the clock to make it look like the butterfly just escaped time.
