Burning Wood

Effectively burning your wood can be challenging. The best way I found to burn the wood is to hold the wood upside down. Light the lighter and hold the flame about 2 - 3 inches away from board. This makes a nice dark char on the wood.
Sanding Wood

This step is optional. The unsanded wood looks cool but I want to clean up the burn marks from the outside of the letters.
I used a drywall sander with 60 grit sanding pads.
