Building the Asylum Extrema Habitat Model in Tinkercad and Upgrading in Blender

Screenshot (33).png

Welcome to the Instructable for creating and upgrading the Asylum Extrema habitat model, designed for extreme environments. This guide will take you through the process of designing a basic model in Tinkercad, enhancing it in Blender, and sharing the final model. We will also provide an iframe for the final model and a PDF of the detailed project report.

Supplies

Tinkercad Account: Create a free account on Tinkercad.

Blender: Download and install Blender from Blender.org.

Internet Access: For accessing Tinkercad and Blender resources.

Creativity and Patience: Essential for designing and refining your model.

Objective: Design a modular habitat with components that can be adapted to different extreme environments.

Components:

  • Living Quarters
  • Laboratories
  • Energy Units (Solar Panels, Wind Turbines)
  • Water Recycling Systems
  • Safety Modules
  • Central Control Unit

Creating the Base Model in Tinkercad

First, let's start by creating the base structure of the Asylum Extrema habitat.

  1. Open Tinkercad: Go to Tinkercad and log in.
  2. Create a New Project: Click on "Create New Design."
  3. Base Structure: Drag this shape onto the work plane. This will be the foundation of your habitat.

Let's start by creating the base structure of the Asylum Extrema habitat using a hemisphere shape as the foundation.

Create Another Shape

Create Another Shape

  1. Compartments: Duplicate the base to create the parts.
  2. Positioning: Adjust the dimensions and place the parts around the base.

Resize It

Resize It

  1. Fine-tuning: Resize the components to ensure they fit together perfectly. These should be proportional to the base.

Add a Cuboid for the Pathway

Drag a Box:

  • Drag a box shape from the shape menu onto the workspace.
  • Adjust its dimensions to create a cuboid that will act as the connecting path between compartments. Ensure it is long enough to connect the hemispheres and wide enough for movement.

Merge Compartment with Path:

  • Position the cuboid so that it connects the hemispheres.
  • Select the hemisphere and the cuboid, then group them to merge into a single unit.
  • Repeat this process for each hemisphere to ensure all are connected by paths.

Made Duplicates and Merge It

Clone and Arrange:

  • Select the entire structure (hemisphere and path).
  • Duplicate the structure three times.
  • Arrange the four structures in an equidistant circular layout to form the base of the habitat.

Add Support Cuboids:

  • Drag five additional box shapes onto the workspace.
  • Position these cuboids under the arranged compartments to act as supports.
  • Adjust their height to ensure they support the base structure properly

Final Adjustments:

  • Ensure all components are properly aligned and merged where necessary.
  • Select the entire structure and group it to form a single, unified model.

Upload in Blender

Export as OBJ:

  • With the model selected, go to the export menu and choose to export as an OBJ file.

Its in Blender...

Screenshot (27).png

Import into Blender:

  • Open Blender and import the OBJ file you exported from Tinkercad.
  • Use Blender’s tools to refine the model. You can smooth surfaces, add details, and make any adjustments needed to perfect the design.

DO Some Blender Magic (If You Don't Know Blender You Can Download Final Model)

Blender Magic:

  • Utilize Blender’s advanced features to enhance your model. This could include adding textures, refining shapes, or making structural improvements.
  • Once satisfied with the modifications, prepare the model for re-export.

Some Construction Work

Reimport into Tinkercad:

  • Open Tinkercad and import the OBJ file.
  • Place the refined model into your Tinkercad workspace for further adjustments or to add additional components as needed.

Conclusion

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully designed, enhanced, and shared a model of the Asylum Extrema habitat. This versatile, modular habitat system is now ready to support human life in various extreme environments. By following these steps, you have demonstrated how advanced design and technology can create sustainable and resilient living spaces in harsh conditions.

Feel free to experiment with different designs and configurations to further enhance your habitat model. Share your creations and inspire others to explore innovative solutions for living in extreme environments.
