Building a Tufting Frame
How to make a standing tufting frame of 75 by 75 cm.
Supplies
To build a good tufting frame you will need the following tools:
- a drill and srewdriver
- a hammer
- maybe a saw when the shop does not precut your wood, either manual or electric
You will need the following materials:
- Wood, the size depends on the size of you frame. Calculate
- Nailed carpet grippers , we got them at https://tuftingshop.com/
- 4,5 cm long screws for the frame construction
- 3 cm long screws for leg braces
- Wood glue and nails, or staple gun
Calculate the size of the wood. And cut it to the wanted size. You can cut your wood by hand or with an electric saw.
You will need 4 pieces for a square or rectangle and extra for the legs. A piece for the yarn to stand on and a piece for the hook that guides the yarn.
If you have a custom size frame in mind, make a drawing to calculate the sizes.
Take into account the following:
- If you have a really big frame, you need to completely fill it before you can finish any rug, or you will have too much waste fabric. Many people start small, and go bigger after a while.
- Take into account that you need about 5-10 cm of spare fabric on each side of your frame to allow you to stretch the fabric. Most default size fabric go per 1 meter x 4 meter, take this into account when determining the size of a frame and preventing waiste fabric.
Assembling the Wood
First make the frame square or rectangle. We added some corner pieces for extra stability.
After that make a t shape for the legs and add a corner piece for extra stability.
Next, attach the legs to the frame.
