Instructions

A note before starting -

Please understand - the below diagrams are genuinely and carefully designed to help you navigate the build process. However, we don’t include specific recommendations for which tools, hardware, or products to use. These truly are “DIY” designs.

As such – a significant portion of the build-process will be up to you, the builder. So please know, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to assemble any of our designs! If you need to depart from the instructions, or rearrange things along the way, feel free to.

The only thing we ask: please be safe and use glasses and gloves while building. And of course, there’s no shame in asking an expert for help or seeking guidance from your local professionals at any time.

And please: enjoy the process!

Supplies

  • 9 1'' x 3'' Lumber - 24" Length Wood
  • 6 1'' x 3'' Lumber - 9.5" Length Wood
  • 3 1'' x 3'' Lumber - 22" Length Wood
  • 10 1/2" Flange Black Steel Metal
  • 6 1/2" x 2" Long Nipple Black Steel Metal
  • 6 1/2" Tee Black Steel Metal
  • 8 1/2" x 4" Long Nipple Black Steel Metal
  • 4 1/2" 90° Elbow Black Steel Metal
  • 4 1/2" x 11" Long Nipple Black Steel Metal

Making the Wooden Shelves

First, gather your 1x3" lumber for each shelf: one piece at 1x3", three pieces at 24" long each, and two pieces at 9.5" long each.

Start by taking the 1x3" pieces that are 9.5" long and attaching them to the 22" piece of lumber. Use a basic butt joint for assembly. For added support, you can apply glue around the edges. Secure the parts together using 1 1/2” nails.

Once this part is assembled, take your three 24" long pieces of lumber and place them evenly on top of the assembled piece. Repeat this step for your other two shelves.

We recommend sanding and varnishing each shelf for a smoother finish. The varnish should be dry by the time you complete the next step.

Don't forget to wear your protective gear throughout the process.

Assembly of the Steel Structure

Next, we'll move on to the steel structure. For this step, you will need:

  • Three 1/2" tee steel pieces
  • Five 1/2" x 2" nipple steel pieces
  • Five 1/2" flange steel pieces
  • Two 1/2" x 11" nipple steel pieces
  • Four 1/2" x 4" nipple steel pieces
  • Two 1/2" elbow steel pieces

Start by taking your 1/2" x 11" nipple steel pieces and attaching a 1/2" tee steel piece to each end. Then, add the second nipple steel piece, followed by the last nipple steel piece.

Next, screw the 2" nipple steel pieces into the tee steel pieces and attach the flange steel pieces.

Now, take your 1/2" x 4" nipple steel pieces and screw them into the tee steel pieces. Attach a 1/2" elbow steel piece to each end, followed by another 1/2" x 4" nipple steel piece. Repeat this process on each end. Finally, add the flange steel pieces.

Repeat this entire step twice.

Affixing the Shelves and Steel

Now, we'll attach the steel structure to the wooden shelves. Center and mark where you will screw the flange steel onto each side of the wooden shelf; drill carefully. Use 3/4" screws.

Once all the shelves are affixed, use the 3/4" screws to mount the shelf assembly to the wall.
