Build a Temple

Temple.jpg

This lesson will cover how to use the workplane tool to build a temple. Also, a great way to get textures is using the image generator shape and a black and white image.

Instructions

  1. Continue to the next step.

Temple: Place the Walls

To start, the brick wall and arch needs to be moved and copied on all sides of the dark grey Polygon. The Workplane Tool will be helpful with this task.

Instructions

  1. Find the brick wall/arch piece and select it.
  2. Press Z to zoom the camera towards it to make it easy to work with.
  3. Press W to change to the Workplane Tool.
  4. Continue to the next step.

Using the Workplane Tool

Your cursor will change to an orange box with a white pointer. When it is placed over an object, the white arrow will point 90 degrees away from the surface it is over. Find a part of the wall that is flat with the ground plane (the arrow will be pointing up).

Instructions

  1. Left click on a wall surface, where the arrow is pointing up.
  2. Continue to the next step.

Align the Workplane

The ground plane will become orange and align itself to the surface that was selected, changing it's position and rotation.

Instructions

  1. Select the wall and press CTRL+C. This will store a copy of your selection until you paste it later.
  2. Continue to the next step.

Align Workplane to Building Surface

Next, realign the ground plane to the dark grey polygon.

Instructions

  1. Position the camera to see the large dark grey shape.
  2. Press W to select the Workplane Tool and select a side of the dark grey polygon.
  3. Continue to the next step.

Paste the Wall/arch

Time to add the walls.

Instructions

  1. Press CTRL+P to paste a copy of the wall/arch.
  2. Move it in place as needed. Notice when the Workplane grid is in it's normal position, the large black arrow moves an object up, and while the Workplane grid is aligned to a surface, the large black arrow will move the object away from that surface.
  3. Continue to the next step.

Continue Pasting
