This is how you can make your own iPod that actually plays!

Materials

For this iPod, you will need:

*1/4 gallon blue paint
*1 x-acto knife
*4 ft. by 4 ft. piece of cardboard.
*Computer (to print a screen)
*6 led lights
*2 Straws
*1 Sharpie
*1 Paint Brush
*Packing Tape

Procedure, Step 1

Gather all your materials.  After you have done that, take the cardboard, and using the x-acto knife, cut out the following pieces:

*2 12 in. by 6 in. pieces
*2  6 in. by 8 in. pieces
*2  12 in. by 8 in. pieces

Using one of the two 12 in. by 8 in. pieces, cut out a 4 in. by 6 in. square that is 1 in. in on all sides along the top.

Step 2

Take all the pieces and paint them blue.  You should allow time for them to dry.

Preparing the Front Piece

After you have painted all the pieces blue, take he front piece, and draw a circle on it.  In the middle of the circle you just drew, draw a smaller circle.  On the top, write MENU.  On the right side, draw to right-facing arrows and a bar.  On the left side, draw to left-facing triangles and a bar.  On the bottom, draw one right-facing triangle and two bars.

Now, go onto the internet and print out a screen of your choosing.  After you have printed it out, paste it in the opening by taping it on the inside (the non painted side) of the front piece.

Attaching the Pieces

DSC_0138.JPG
Take one of the 6 in. by 8 in. pieces and lay it on a flat surface with the painted side down.  Now, take the front piece and lay it so it attaches to the piece that you have already put down.  Next, take the back piece and lay it so it is opposite the front piece.  Now, taking the two 6 in. by 12 in. pieces, put them along the side of the 6 in. by 8 in. piece.  Now, taking the other 6 in. by 8 in. piece, put it next to one of the 6 in. by 12. in pieces.

*Remember that all the pieces have the painted side down*

Now, take the packing tape, and use the tape to make hinges where all the pieces meet.

The Lights

Now, take the two straws and the 6 L.E.D. lights.  Place the L.E.D. lights on the straws about an inch away from each other.  Each straw should have 3 L.E.D. lights on it.

Now using the straws with the lights on them, tape them to the top piece of cardboard.  You can do this by folding the packing tape so it is on the straw and the cardboard.

Putting the IPod Together

Now, fold up the pieces so it forms a box.  Every time you fold up two pieces, use the packing tape to hinge those two pieces together.  Continue this process until the iPod is complete.

The Speaker

Now, take your MP3 player and the speaker and put them inside the iPod using the flap on the back piece.

The Finish
