Make your own one-of-a-kind wooden trash can! You can open it with your feet instead of your hands, which is super convenient!

This is a project I made when I was 16 years old, when I was still a beginner, so anyone can make it!

I've drawn friendly illustrated instructions so hopefully you can follow along.

(Actually, I made this 4 years ago when I didn't know Instructables yet, so I don't have any pictures of my work... sorry)

Supplies

Tools: Woodworking Sets

you need:

Hing1; 50 mm Qty 2

Hinge2: approx. 40mm-30mm Qty 2 pcs

Bolt1: 10 mm diameter, 45 mm long Qty 2

Bolt2: approx. 4 mm dia, 25 mm long 1 pc

Bolt3: 5 mm dia; 50 mm long 1 pc

Bolt4: 4 mm diameter, 4mm long Qty 4 pcs

Cutting the Wood

Due to the large size, one part is divided into four A4 sheets. Set the print settings to full and print well. Tape the four sheets together and cut out the pattern.

Number 2, 6, and 7 make two. No. 6 is 30T, but you can change it to 30T by overlapping 15T.

Check the thickness of each piece carefully.

Assemble the Body

Using Number 1 as a base, glue Number 2 and 3 together. This assembled piece will be called the body. Nail it down well.

On the inside of the body, mark with a pen a point 55 mm above the floor. Apply bond to the top of that line to assemble Number 5. Drive nails or screws from the outside of the body to secure the Number 5. Measure 55 mm with a ruler to make sure the nails don't go too far out of the wood of Number 5.

This completes the basic body assembly.

Assemble the Buttons

Turn the body over so that the bottom is visible. Align number 7 with the groove on number 3. Be careful not to mistake the top, bottom, left, and right sides Number 7.

Overlap and glue Number 8-1 and 8-2. Glue the right side of Number 9 to Number 8. This is the longer side from the hole.

Attach hinge2 to the other side with a single bolt2. Attach it to either the left or right hole of the hinge.

Put number 9 in between number 7. Install bolt3. Be careful not to overtighten the number 9 as it will need to move.

This is the end of the button assembly.

Assemble the Mechanical Structure

We will assemble numbur 4, the lid of the bin. Glue hinge1 between the body and Number 6. Be careful not to cover the holes in the hinge with the body. Thread the bolt1 through Number 6 and assemble it with the body. Screw the hinge and number 6 together. Do this on both sides.

Align number 4 with the body and assemble with the hinges and bolts.

Now we'll assemble Number 10 for the last time. Connect the hinges of Number 10 and Number 9 with bolts4. Mark the spot on Number 4 for the hinge to be assembled to match the position of Number 10. Insert the hinge2 into the marked spot on Number 4 by 17mm and glue it.

Raise number 9 all the way to the bottom and secure it. Then connect the Number 4 hinges with bolts4 through Number 10. Finally, the lid will be noisy when it closes, so you can attach a staple to the body to dampen the sound.

That's it!

Oh, but be sure to varnish it to keep it clean.
