Bubble Dyeing a T-Shirt

7 - Shirt.JPG
Fun for Kids and Adults....bubble dyeing.

Best done outdoors on a calm weather day (unless you want to dye more than the shirt) or indoors as I did with precautions (drop cloth).

Use one color or multiple colors.

Materials

1 - Materials.JPG
White T-shirt
Crayons
Rit Dye
Bubble Solution
Bubble Blowing Gun
Piece of Cardboard for inside shirt
Plastic Drop Cloth (if dyeing in the bathtub)
Spray bottle with water (optional)
Iron and Ironing Board
Thin Cotton fabric to use as a press cloth
Old Clothes
Rubber Gloves

Words or Designs (optional But Fun)

Decoration your shirt with words or designs using crayons.

The wax will melt out during the heat set step and leave the crayon's dye behind.

Your only limit with this step is your imagination!

Dyeing With Bubbles

Now is the fun part.....Bubbles!

PUT ON YOUR RUBBER GLOVES and OLD CLOTHES NOW (I almost forgot).

Load the Bubble gun with 1/2 Dye and 1/2 Bubble solution.     You may need more Bubble Solution but start with 1/2 and 1/2.

Aim the Bubble Gun at the shirt and fire away!

You can use a bubble wand on this step (if you don't have a Bubble Gun) - just know the dye can splash (wear Eye Protection) and you may dye your lips if you get too close to the wand.

OPTIONAL - I spritzed my t-shirt with water from a spray bottle to encourage the dye to spread a little.     You may like how it looks without that so I'll leave it up to you

Heat Set the Dye

4 - Heat Set.JPG
Move the T-shirt to the ironing board and cover with a thin cotton fabric (the Press Cloth).

With the iron set on Cotton (Dry high heat), iron the entire front of the shirt for 5 to 10 minutes, to heat set the dye.

Rinse, Rinse, Rinse

6 - Rinse rinse.JPG
After setting the dye with the hot iron, it's time to rinse, rinse, rinse.

Use cool water (and your Rubber Gloves) and Rinse, Rinse, Rinse until the water is clear.

Your t-shirt will pick up some of the dye during this process so it will no longer be bright white.

Dry Your T-shirt and Wear It Proudly

Roll your t-shirt in an old towel to absorb the extra water from the Rinsing process.

Dry it in the dryer.

Wear your Bubble Dyed shirt proudly.

It's 2 Dye 4!
