Breadless Breakfast Sandwich

unnamed (6).jpg

Oftentimes in the morning, I struggle finding something to eat for breakfast. Typically, breakfast foods make my stomach hurt because of the sweetness, or are too complex. This recipe is the perfect amount of food, and is convenient to make. The breakfast sandwich is made with egg acting as the bun, sausage, american cheese, onions, a homemade spicy sauce, and hash browns.

Supplies

Ingredients:

2 Large Eggs

2 Tablespoons of Sour Cream

3 Drops of Red Hot Original Hot Sauce

1 Slice of American Cheese

1/2 tsp Onion or other vegetable of your choice

1 Patty of Traditional Pork Sausage

1/2 cup of Country Style Hash Browns

A pinch of Salt and Pepper

Supplies:

Sandwich maker

Wisk

Baking Sheet

Small Bowl

Sharp Knife

Cutting board

Aluminum foil

Spray Bottle of Oil

Baking Spatula

Spoon

2 Plates

A Paper Towel

Make the Egg Mixture

To begin, crack two large eggs into a small sized bowl. Dispose of the egg shells. Then use the whisk to mix the eggs thoroughly. Once the eggs are completely mixed, there should be no separation between the egg whites and the egg yolk. A pinch of salt and pepper can be added into the mixture and whisked in at this time if desired.

Cook the Egg Mixture

Use the spray bottle of oil (or other non stick spray), and generously apply it to the inside of the sandwich maker. Once that is complete, plug in the sandwich maker and wait a few minutes in order for it to heat up. Depending on the type of sandwich maker, a light may show up when it has completed warming up. Evenly place the mixture into two slots inside the sandwich maker. Close the lid of the sandwich maker and wait two minutes. Every two minutes open the lid and check on the eggs. The second picture shown is what the eggs should look like after about four minutes. It will take about six minutes to be completely done, but this could change depending on the type of sandwich maker. Once they are done, use a spatula to remove them, and place them on a plate to cool down.

Make sure to preheat the oven to 350 degrees for the sausage.

Make the Hash Browns

Place the pan on top of the stove and set the stove to a medium heat. For this example, we used frozen hash browns, but feel free to make homemade hash browns. Before placing the potatoes in, generously spray the vegetable oil onto the pan. Next, add the potatoes in, and spread them evenly around the pan. You are able to let them sit without stirring for about two minutes, but make sure it is no longer than that. Otherwise, the potatoes will begin to burn and stick to the pan. If the potatoes are still starting to stick to the pan, you can add a few extra pumps of vegetable oil. The potatoes will take about fifteen minutes to become crispy. If you prefer less crispy hash browns, decrease the time by about four minutes. The time spent cooking could vary depending on the type of stove, adding to the importance of checking and stirring them every two minutes.

Cook the Sausage

Once the oven has preheated to 350 degrees, place a piece of aluminum foil on a baking sheet. Then, take the sausage patty and place it onto the sheet. Next, you can take the baking sheet with the sausage and place it into the oven. Make sure you wash your hands after dealing with the raw sausage! After seven minutes of being in the oven (or halfway through the total time cooking if your oven is faster or slower), use a spatula to flip the sausage over. Place the sheet back into the oven and leave it for seven more minutes (or until cooked all of the way through). Once they are finished, place the sheet on the counter until assembly.

Make the Sauce

Get out a small bowl. Place one tablespoon of sour cream and three drops of hot sauce into the bowl. Grab a spoon and stir the mixture until it is completely combined. This should only take around twenty seconds.

Cut the Onion

Grab the onion, and wash it off in the sink. Once it is washed, dry it off with a paper towel and place it on the cutting board. Remove the top layer of the onion. Chop off one end and throw it into the trashcan. Cut a slice of onion about two centimetres thick. Dice half of the slice of onion. If you would like to include other vegetables, now would be the time to wash and dice them.

Assemble the Sandwich!

Take both halves of the egg and place them down face up. Take the spatula used to cook the hash browns, and place the hash browns on one side of the egg. Slice a piece of american cheese into two, diagonally. Place one slice of cheese on top of the hash browns. Take a spoonful of the sour cream sauce and place it on the other piece of egg (that nothing is currently on). Place the sausage patty on the piece of egg that the sauce is on. Take one side of the egg and place it on top of the other.

Finished!
