Bread Crisp Appetizers

I loath throwing food out. All bread, especially gluten free bread with no preservatives, loses it's freshness quickly. What can you do with dried out bread?

Awhile ago I made a gluten free hot dog bun and sub sandwich bun instuctables (click here to see here). Unfortunately, some of the bread became stale. What was I to do? My solution was to create this "bread crisp appetizers" recipe. Once I have my bread crisps, I load them up with extra items I have around the kitchen to create yummy little appetizers. I'll share a couple of my favorite appetizers here, but you can create your own tasty treats with whatever you might have in your kitchen. Most of my ideas start with a little bit of cream cheese to anchor the other goodies to the crisp. Hummus is another good base.

Possible Ingredients

  • day old or previously frozen sandwich buns or any stale bread
  • toppings like cream cheese, cucumber slices, cherry tomato slices, , green onion curls, cocktail sauce, dried cherries, shredded cheddar, dill pickle slices
  • meats such as shaved smoked turkey, cooked shrimp, grated hotdog

Supplies

  • butter flavored pan spray
  • parchment lined cookie sheet
  • serrated knife
