Small box made from a single 8 foot 1x2 piece of lumber.

Supplies

  1. 1 piece of eight foot 1x2 lumber
  2. Wood glue
  3. Pencil
  4. Carpenter's square
  5. Wood saw (I like pull saws)
  6. Screwdriver
  7. 1.25 inch wood screws

Measure and Cut Wood

  1. Using the Carpenter's Square and pencil, measure out 4.5 inch pieces of wood.
  2. Using the saw, cut out the pieces of wood until there is no more wood.

Glue Base and Start Walls

  1. If you would like, feel free to use the double glue joint to strengthen the joints, but it is not necessary:

  2. Glue 5 pieces of wood together along their long edges to create the base.
  3. After they are dry, take another piece of wood and screw it to the side of the base with the short ends.
  4. Be sure to position it along the center 3 pieces.
  5. Repeat on the other side.
  6. Glue two additional pieces on the top of the base along the long sides.

Continue to Build Box Walls

  1. Build the walls of the box up by gluing additional pieces on the first 4 base pieces.
  2. There was a small piece of wood left, so I just glued it to the top as a place to hang something.
