Bow Tie

I have bunch of scrap materials from fibres to old electric gadgets that don't work. I am very new to textiles and why not try learn something new! A cool and awesome DIY bow tie, easy to do and an awesome fashion statement!

I have a bunch of used paper and so I experimented with materials. I used paper to visualise what size I am comfortable with and what I wanted it to look like.

I drew a rectangle onto a piece of paper measuring 22 by 7.6 cm and folded it 5 times, nearly as possible with a strap around to hold it in place.

So feeling confident now! I cut a 20 by 10 cm piece of card to give stiffness to the fabric and a 20 by 10 piece of fabric. I marked the midpoint of the rectangle and drew 2 folding lines on top and bottom.

To keep the fabric and card together i used double sided tape, you could always use a thread and needle or even better a sewing machine. I began to fold the top and bottom on the folding lines and the left and right sides towards the midpoint, using a little PVA Glue to keep the structure in place.

I went ahead and used some black mesh material to make a smaller bow, I cut the mesh 180 by 80 and folded it and half. To keep the bow in place I tied a ribbon around the bow and held it place with pins before doing a quick stich.

I really like the way it turned out and it only took me 15 minutes to make!
