Bourbon Bottle Lamp

My brother owns a brewery and distillery in Kennebunkport, ME. I decided to use one of his empty bourbon bottles from Batson River Brewing to make him a lamp for his home office. The lamp took less than an hour to make. It only required minimal tools, some coffee beans, and a little creativity.

The only tool I needed was a drill, a diamond-tipped drill bit, and a hot glue gun. I used parts from an old lamp, but you can order a lamp kit and shade from Amazon in the links below. I've also included the link for the drill bit you can use to drill through a glass bottle.

The first step is to be sure you have a clean & dry bottle of your choice. You can then use the diamond drill bit to drill a hole like you see here in the lower-back portion of your bottle. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! This took a little patience as this was a thick bottle, but it was relatively easy to do on my first try.

Next, feed your power cord up through the bottle, leaving enough wire coming out the neck of the bottle to install the lamp hardware. I then used a hot glue gun to secure a bead of glue around the hole, holding the cable firm from rub rubbing or chaffing over time.

Next, you can install the lamp hardware. I was able to easily drill a 3/8" hole through the cork of this bottle to easily hold the lamp hardware. You may have to get creative depending on which bottle and cap you're using. You can see here how easily my lamp hardware fit. Before securing the lamp/cap to the bottle, I filled my bottle with coffee beans to hide the wiring. You can choose to use stones, marbles, or any other media of your choosing.

I selected a simple lamp shade that clips right on the build of the lamp like this one shown.

Your finished product is a fun new lamp you can be proud to display in your home or office. The coffee beans make it smell quite nice as well!
