4) Cardboard

The Hat

The hat will follow the same pattern as it did before. Since my friend has a lot of hair, I inserted an extra round in between 9 and 10. It was (hdc in next 7 st, 2 hdc in next hdc) I ended up with 74 stitches at the end.

sc = Single Crochet
hdc = Half Double Crochet
st = stich(es)

Rnd 1: Magic Ring with 4sc
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each sc (8 st)
Rnd 3: 2 hdc in each sc (16 st)
Rnd4: (hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat around (24 st)
Rnd 5: (hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next) repeat around (32 st)
Rnd 6: (hdc in next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat around (40 st)
Rnd 7: (hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next st) repeat around (48 st)
Rnd 8: (hdc in next 5 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat around (56 st)
Rnd 9: (hdc in next 6 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat around (64 st)
Rnd 10: (hdc in next 31 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat around (66 st)
Rnd 11-20: hdc in every st (66 st)

The Fuse

The Base:

Rnd 1: Magic ring with 6 sc (6 st)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every sc (12 st)
Rnd 3: 2sc in first sc, 1 sc in next sc. Repeat around (18st)
Rnd 4: 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next 2 sc. Repeat around (24 st)
Rnd 5: 1 sc in back stitch of each sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 6: 1sc in every sc (24)
Rnd 7: 2sc in first sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc. Repeat around (30 st)
Rnd 8: 1 sc in every sc (30 st). Finish off.

The Fuse:

Tie into the base. Chain about 100 or however long you want the chain to be. Finish off.

The Spark

012.JPG
This was a nice touch in my opinion. To do this, you make a tassel to add to the end of the fuse.

Get a piece of cardboard however long you want the spark to be. Mine was about an inch. Take your red, orange, and yellow yarn and wrap them around the card board a fairly good amount of times. Cut the yarn from the ball. Carefully remove the yarn from the cardboard. Holding one turn of the yarn, cut the other so that the yarn is in the shape of an upside down "U" when hanging on your finger. Insert the fuse into the yarn from what would normally be the bottom of the "U". Cut a small piece of red yarn. Wrap it a little ways down form what would normally be the bottom of the "U". Tie tightly. Arrange the yarn around the fuse so that the spark hides it.

The Eyes

007.JPG
They look funny because my white yarn is really old and worn out.

Rnd 1: Magic ring with 6 sc. (6 st)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every sc (12 st)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in every sc (24 st)
Rnd 4: 2 sc in every sc (48 st)

The Wind-Up Key

010.JPG
This is just 2 circles attached together.

Make 2 circles:

Rnd 1: Magic ring with 6 sc (6 st)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every sc (12 st)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in every sc (24 sc)
Finish off

Take the third of the circle where you tied of the yarn. Slip stitch into the sc. 1 sc in every sc for the third. sc into the first sc of the other circle. sc for the circle's third.

Attach the key to the hat by slip stitching from the insie of the hat to the base of the key. Weave the yarn through the base and hat. Tie off.

Finished!
