What can be more fun for your young one than a spinning flower?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, a simple Kid friendly craft project which can be made

by a kid.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today we will make a flower for the young one's in the house

which will spin as you blow it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Join me and my sis through this instructable on making a

spinning flower....

  • A4 size sheet (colored/white)
  • 7.5X7.5 cm green sheet (You can color it or used a colored sheet)
  • paper stick agent like Fevicol, Glue stick or any other kind of glue
  • Ruler [optional]
  • Stapler [optional]
  • Tape (lipline) [optional]
  • scissors

Making the Fold-1

8.jpg
11.jpg

Firstly we are going to divide the paper in two parts, so that

one part is square and other one is rectangle......

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To divide the sheet, I am gonna use a secret technique...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Technique:

First, fold the paper in such a manner so that the upper side of the sheet overlaps

the longer left side.

You must have noticed that 1/3 of the sheet is not overlapped, let it stay that way.

  • Use the pictures as a reference and make sure your fold exactly looks like mine.

You can use a colored sheet, In my case I used a white sheet.

Making the Fold-2

15.jpg
16.jpg
13.jpg
14.jpg
19.jpg

Now

Fold the lower part of the sheet upwards in such a way that when you unfold it,

lines are visible along the previous fold in a straight line.

  • Make sure your fold matches mine

After doing this, unfold the whole paper and

look at the Horizontal line which is visible from the folds we had made.

That's right, if we see carefully, we can see a square in the upper part of the sheet.....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

# Use the pictures as a reference

Cutting the Sheet

20.jpg

17.jpg
18.jpg

Now cut the sheet with the scissors along the Horizontal line and divide the

sheet into a square and a rectangle.

#SQUARE - From the square paper, we are going to make the flower…

#RECTANGLE-From the rectangle paper, we are going to make the stem.

FLOWER : Fold 1

22.jpg
24.jpg
21.jpg
25.jpg

So now we will start making the flower...

You must have noticed a diagonal line on the square sheet of paper, which we

made from the earlier folds...

Now, we are gonna do the same, and... make a similar diagonal line adjacent

to the other line by folding the paper from where we want the line.

NOTE: make sure a triangle is formed when folding the paper, and

completely overlaps each other.... AS SHOWN.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now open the sheet and make sure that you can see 2 diagonal lines

on the square...

FLOWER: Fold 2

FOLD 1
28.jpg

After making the diagonals…, Here is the next step

This fold would be kind of confusing for some people, so watch the

video carefully to get this right.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So basically, if you see the piece of paper, you would be able to notice four equal triangles in the square.

You just have to make all those triangles, meet together by folding all the

sides inward as shown in the video.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After doing this, your square sheet must be looking like a (+) or (x) from the upper view.

FLOWER: Fold 3

FLOWER: Fold 3
FLOWER: Fold 4
27.jpg
29.jpg

Now from the upper view you must be able to view four flaps coming out from the middle.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First select one flap and join it with one of the adjacent flap. Do the same with

the other two flaps.

Now, press them all together, so they look like one single triangle from above

  • Make sure it is accurate and matches with the picture.

FLOWER: Fold 4

Fold 4
Fold 4

Now we are gonna make a fold, after which the sheet will

look like a square form above.

To do this, you will need to start folding from the corner vertex of the triangle and move it to the top vertex

such that you overlap them.

Do the same for the adjacent side and make both the folds meet at the top.

Now turn it upside down and do the same for the back side of the triangle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The end result should be a small square or rhombus, as shown…

FLOWER: Fold 5

fold 5

Now you must be able to notice that there is a gap or line in the middle, our

target is to make it disappear from our view.

To do that we will just flip the upper right flap to the left, then

flip the square upside down and again flip the upper right flap to the left.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, the lines have disappeared…

FLOWER: Fold 6

fold 6
30.jpg
33.jpg

Now there are two adjacent sides in the square from where you will be able

to see two different layers of paper. [upper layer flaps]/[lower layer flaps]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We first have to fold the right upper flap [the one with two layers of paper] in such a

manner that it meets in the middle, as shown…

Then fold the left upper flap [the one with two layers of paper] in such a

manner that it overlaps 1/4 of the right flap.

Now flip it and do the same with the back side. But this time first fold the left

upper flap [the one with two layers of paper] in such a way that it meets in between

and make the right upper flap [the one with two layers of paper] overlap 1/4

of the left flap

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The result should be a diamond from the upper view…

FLOWER: Fold 7

fold 7
41.jpg
31.jpg
36.jpg

You would have noticed that there is space inside each flap…

Now we are going to make the longer flap on the upper side go inside

the space available inside the shorter flap, as shown…

Do the same for the back side of the diamond.

Make sure that the lower two flaps are overlapped completely by the upper flaps.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now we will do a similar fold which we did in step 8,

we will make the right flap go to the right side

then flip the diamond,

and do the same thing.....

Note: Don't press it

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now it should be looking like a (X) or a (+) from the upper view.

FLOWER: Fold 8

fold 8
32.jpg
39.jpg
38.jpg

Now, from the bottom view, you must be able to see a hole.

This hole is very important because we are gonna blow into it.

Remember: Don't blow too hard

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now after filling it up with air it must be looking like a

3D diamond [kind of]

FLOWER: Fold 9

45.jpg
44.jpg
42.jpg
43.jpg

This is the final step of the Flower, which is making the flower bloom…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the upper view, we can see four different flaps surrounding the

flower.

We just have to open all the four petals to make it look like a flower.

You can also use colored sheets or draw your custom design

on the paper...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Now this is giving the flower vibe"......

These petals are also going to make our flower spin.

Making the Leaves-1

47.jpg
46.jpg
48.jpg

Now we will start making the leaves, for doing so you will need one 7.5x7.5 green sheet.

You can either color the sheet or use a colored sheet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are coloring the sheet, then use multiple green shade crayons to make it

look real....

I have colored the sheet differently from the back because I wanted to try

different styles…

You can either color the whole sheet the same, from the back and the front, or give different shades.

COLOR THE SHEET FROM BOTH THE SIDES

Making the Leaves-2

49.jpg
50.jpg
51.jpg

After coloring the square sheet, we are gonna cut the sheet into two equal triangles.

So, we will start by folding the sheet as shown,

Then we will open the sheet, and cut it along the line formed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The end result should be two equal triangles.

From each triangle we are gonna make one leaf, so in total we have 2 leaves...

Making the Leaves-3

Leaf fold
52.jpg

Now we will make zigzag design on the triangle,

to do so, we will fold the triangle as shown in the video....

Remember to start folding from the long side, not from the pointed side

Making the Leaves-4

53.jpg
54.jpg

After making the design, we are gonna fold the paper from the pointed vertex at the top.

Note: Make sure to fold it exactly in half

Now hold it upside-down and make sure it looks like the picture...

Making the Leaves-5

55.jpg
63.jpg
56.jpg
57.jpg
58.jpg

After folding, we are gonna stick both the long sides together.

So, for sticking the paper we can use fevicol, fevistick, or any other kind of glue.

I am using fevistick as it was available with me at the point.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After sticking form both the sides,

hold the leaf from the both the corners and stretch it, until it looks

a leaf.

Leaf Completed

61.jpg
62.jpg
59.jpg
60.jpg

Congrats!.....

Now we will do the same with the other triangle and make a similar leaf.

Remember that you only need two leaves for one flower.

I made 4 leaves for two flowers.

Making the Stem

74.jpg
75.jpg
73.jpg
72.jpg
65.jpg

Now we will start making the stem...

For this, we are going to use the leftover rectangle sheet...

  • First, roll the paper and make sure that it's width is between 5-8 cm
  • Stick the ends with any kind of glue

Now it must be looking like a long flattened stick, so we are

going to press the two long edges of the stick together, making it more

like a square.

Sticking the Leaves

71.jpg
70.jpg
69.jpg
68.jpg
67.jpg

In this step we are going to stick the leaves which we made earlier

to the stem.

  • First, take the leaf and put it upside down
  • Then put some glue on the bottom edge of the leaf
  • Now, stick the lower part of the leaf horizontally form the stem

REMEMBER to stick the first leaf, exactly in the middle of the stem…

  • Stick the second leaf right below the first one in opposite horizontal direction

There shouldn't be much gap in between the leaves.

Completed

Completed
77.jpg
78.jpg
76.jpg

In this step, we are going to combine both the flower and the stem...

  • If you see the flower from below, you will be able to see a small hole
  • we are going to insert the stem inside that hole

Yep, our flower is completed, but what remains is giving it a spinning effect !...

Spinning Effect

Spinning Effect
spinning effect

For making the flower spin, we are going to increase the size of the hole in which

we inserted our stem.

I am using a pencil to do so...

After doing that, we are gonna again put the stem back inside the flower.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now we are going to blow the petals of the flower from one side so that

it spins from a particular direction. [either left to right or right to left]

All Completed & Final Thoughts...
