Bleach Bottle Bag

bucket bag (2).jpg

When I was a kid one of my Mothers friends made these cute drawstring bags out of old bleach bottles. They were quite handy for holding all of my crayons and colored pencils.

I wanted to make one for my Grandchildren.

Let's get started!

Supplies

For this project you will need the following:

Empty bleach bottle, the one I used was 6" in diameter, washed and rinsed out

Scissors

Hole punch

Fabric

Embroidery floss

2 yards of 1/2" wide Ribbon or bias tape

Safety pin

Needle and thread

straight pins

Cut Bleach Bottle

Measure and mark bleach bottle 4-1/2" tall.

Cut bleach bottle on the marked line.

Punch holes around top edge, evenly spaced.

Crochet Around Top Edge

Using a crochet hook, I looped the embroidery floss around the top edge. Tie the ends together.

Fabric

Measure the circumference of your bleach bottle. Add 1 more inch for the seam allowance.

The height of the fabric portion is 6". You will need to add 1" for the bottom hem and 3" for the top hem and casing for the drawstring.

Sew the short ends together.

Hem the bottom edge. Turn under 1/2" then turn under 1/2" again. Pin. Hand or machine stitch.

Stitch 2 button holes 4" from the top edge, 1/2" apart. Stitch another pair of button holes on the opposite side.

Turn down the top edge 3" to the inside. Pin.

Sew by hand or machine, around the top edge.

Sew around again just below the button holes, creating a casing for ribbon.

Attach Fabric to Plastic

Place the fabric piece over the plastic bucket, right sides together.

Using a large needle and embroidery floss, sew the fabric to the plastic bucket.

Drawstring

Place a safety pin to one end of a piece of ribbon.

Thread the ribbon through one of the button holes all the way around and out of the button hole that is next to the one it went into. Bring the ends of ribbon together and tie in a knot.

Repeat with the other ribbon on the opposite side of the bag.

This would make a great bag for make-up.
