The Bite Switch is a simple and affordable device designed for individuals with cerebral palsy. By using the biting motion, the user can activate various electronic devices or communication tools. This clothespin mechanism provides a simple step by step design and requires minimal pressure, making it an accessible option for those seeking greater independence in daily tasks.

To strip the Alligator Clips, you must grab your wire stripper and find the corresponding hole that works best. We used 16awg/1.3mm. Do the same for the second alligator clip.

Tape It Down!

Place your stripped wire on one side of the open end of the clothespin and tape it down with copper tape or any tape with a conductive material. Wrap it with copper so that the wire is completely covered and taped to the wood.

Wrap the Rest

Wrap the tip of the clothespin so that the entire open side is covered in tape.

Tape It Down With the Second Clip

Take your second stripped alligator clip and tape it to the other side of the clothespin with copper tape or any tape with a conductive material.

Wrap the Rest on the Other Side

Just like the third step, wrap the rest of the clip with tape so that the entire open side is covered.

Hot Glue Gun

Turn on your hot glue gun and wait until it's ready.

Glue One Side

Cover one side of the copper tape with hot glue where the teeth would be touching. Make sure not to get hot glue on the inner sides or the side of the clothespin due to the fact that it may block the conductivity.

We do this so that your teeth won't make direct contact with the copper tape and it will only activate upon bite.

Glue the Other Side

Do the same as step 7 on the other side.

Cut a Finger of a Rubber Glove

Doesn't matter which finger, as long as it fits around the mouths switch.

Wrap It Around the Switch

Take the cut finger and wrap it around the switch so that the open side is covered by glove and the wires stick out on the sides.

Make sure the glove doesn't get trapped in between the sides when bitten.

You're Done!!

Congrats!! You have yourself a bite switch.
