Birthday Cake Candle Blower
Our project consists of a plywood box that is designed to look like a birthday cake. The main parts include a heat sensor, a fan, a candle holder, and motors for the moving parts. Once the sensor detects heat, the servo motor opens up a small portion of the top of the box where the fan is located. Once the fan faces the candlelight, it blows out the candle with the help of the DC motor. The system works on an if condition where if the heat sensor exceeds the value of 10, it starts to spin the fan motor.
Supplies
1 x Arduino Controller Board
1 x Servo Motor (SG90)
1 x 9V DC Motor
1 x L298N Motor Driver
1 x Fan
1 x 9V Battery
1 x Battery Holder
1 x 5.1K Resistor
1 x Power Cable
1 x 830 Tie-point Breadboard
19 x Jumper Wires
1 x Flame Sensor
Candle Blower in Action
Demonstration of the project where once the heat sensor detects the flame, the lid opens up with the use of a robotic arm, turns on the fan and closes back once the flam is out.
Arduino Diagram
The diagram created in TinkerCAD portrays the wire connections between components of the circuit.
Circuit
Testing out the circuit components together. Arranging the distance between the heat source and the heat sensor.
Laser Cutting
Laser cutting using plywood sheets. We designed the faces of a box that would operate as our main structure while storing the circuit components inside it. We made a small compartment to open up that would have the fan stuck on the surface. By placing small door hinges, we managed to create a lid that opens and closes according the the value from the heat sensor.
Design
For the final design we aimed for a Minecraft look with the classic Minecraft grass block and the cake block for our candle placement.

Identified Problems
We faced an issue where the door hinges and tapes didn't allow the lid to open fully. When this happened the fan couldn't face the candle light all the way but still managed to put the light out.
