Bird's Eye View

IMG_3346.JPG

Our project is a bird that exemplifies multiple physics concepts that we have learned over the year. Our bird has a motor which shows our understanding of circuits. The wings and gears show friction.

Putting Together Base

IMG_3336.JPG

Gather materials and put together base, which consists of

ball joint

left sector gear

right sector gear

ratchet socket

snail cam lever

triangle frame

tube bolt caps (3)

mortise caps (4)

ratchet knob

snail cam

hooks with tenon (2)

Adding the Tail Piece

IMG_3340.JPG

Step 2, assembling and adding the tail piece

-Glue two pieces of tissue paper together

-Cut the tissue paper out in the shape of the triangle frame

-Decorate as needed

-Attach tissue paper to triangle frame

-Attach triangle frame to ball joint on bird base

Adding and Assembling the Wings

IMG_3346.JPG

Materials: 220mm Bamboo Dowels (2), tissue paper, double sided tape

-Measure out tissue paper to 450 mm in length, cut into wing shape

-Make an insert of 4 inches long and 2 inches wide in the middle of the wings

-Decorate as needed

-Using double sided tape attach wings to dowels

-Attach the dowels to the left and right sector gear on the bird base

Attach the Motor

IMG_2843.JPG

Materials: 3V Micro Planetary Reducer Motor Dia 10MM High Torque DC Motor , super glue, zip ties

solder the wires to the motor

attach motor to the hook located on the base end that the wings attach to

super glue can be used to attach the motor, zip ties can be used to secure the motor in place

reattach the wings

Creating the Stand

IMG_2845.JPG

Materials: various sizes of wood, eyelet hook

use 3 pieces of wood to create stand (as pictured)

screw eyelet hook into top piece of wood (as pictured)

Final Product

Materials: invisible thread

hang bird on stand using invisible thread
