Bio Desk - Luminaire (Brian Ramodise)
This is a bio-desk-luminaire made from eggshells, cardboard, flour water and charcoal.
Supplies
Equipment:
- Kettle
- Blender
- Bucket/Big bowl.
- Spice grinder.
- Glue gun.
- Surgical gloves
- Microwave/oven.
- 2 Paper cups (Mould)
- Craft knife.
Ingredients:
- Eggshells x10
- Egg carton x1
- Flour 30 grams
- Baking powder 20 grams
- Salt 10 grams
- Charcoal x2 (small pieces)
- Water 1.25L
Cut Egg Cartons and Put in a Bowl
Shred 1 30egg carton into smaller pieces. Then put into a bucket/big bowl
Grinding Eggshells & Mix With Flour
Crush 10 eggshells in a spice grinder until it becomes smaller grains. then add 25 grams of flour with the eggshell grains with 5 grams of baking powder
Boil Water and Pour It With the Caron
Boil water and pour into a bucket/bowl with the carton shreds. Add the pieces of charcoal for the color Then add the flour and egg mixture until it becomes a wet pulp.
Mix the Paste With Your Hands or a Blender
Pour the wet pulp mixture into a blender or use your hands to mix (wear surgical gloves) if you don't have a blender. Let it mix until it becomes a pasty consistency.
Pour the Paste Into a Sieve
Pour the mixture into a sieve to get a drier outcome (70%Dry) Or use a dry cloth to soak up the water.
Shaping the Mateiral
Use the paper cups as a Mould to shape the material. Insert the wire adjustor whilst the material has not dried.
Let It Dry
Dry it in the microwave for 10 minutes whilst taking one minute cooling breaks 4 times in between the process so the material or the cup doesn't melt. Or let it dry in the sun for 24 hours.
Assembling the 2 Bodies
Assemble the 2 bodies using the wire that sticks out. Using a glue gun and then covering the glue after it dries with the material.
Finishing
Apply salt water in a spray bottle of a brush on the surface of the lamp for the material to not have fungus or mold.
