Bike Mirrors

Since i've had some trouble with other bikers while I ride my bike on the "Ciclovia" and on the "Ciclorutas" Cycle Ways in my city (Bogota, Colombia), because I wasn't able to see them behind or by my side, I had the need to get a couple of mirrors for my bike. I looked them up all over the city and on the net but what I found where too big, too long or too expensive and since I didn't want the "anthens" look on my bike, I decided to build my own and install them myself.
This is my first instructable, I hope you find it useful. :)

Find Materials

I had a couple of Rotating 360 adhesive wide angle small mirrors that I bought for my previous car, that I thought I could use for my bike. Then I had to find some material to create the mount for the mirror, so I found an old piece of Zinc sheet (that is used for roofs in popular neighborhoods in Colombia) in my home tools shop that I could cut and bend in a round shape to create a mount for the mirrors and stick it with double sided tape to the steering bar of my bike. I suggest to use a soft metal sheet that can be bent, it can be cooper, alluminum, etc.

Measure Bar and Mirror

With a measuring tape, measure the contour of the bar and the diameter of the back side of the mirror to calculate the length of the stripe you'll need. (Bar contour + (2 x mirror back diameter) = length of the stripe)

Draw and Cut

Whit a ruler, draw the stripe on the metal sheet (zinc in my case) and cut it. (2 pieces)

Bend and Form the Mounts

With the help of the handle bar, bend the stripes and comform the mounts. Then test them to check if they fit properly. Feel free to unbend and rebend if they don't fit or even cut...

Add Double Sided Tape

Cut a couple of pieces of double sided tape, long enough to cover all the shape of the mount. Then cut the excess of tape until neat.

Mount the Mounts

Sitck the mounts to the steering bar. Make sure they are positioned on the desired angle for the mirrors to work.

Add Mirrors

Stick the mirrors on the mounts. Make sure they are possitioned on the right spot, it means on the middle of each mount and on the middle of the mirror tape.

Enjoy!
