Bike Trailer for Towing Adults
Why should kids have all the fun? Most of the bike trailers you can buy only take kids, because of their weight limits. Now you finally have the opportunity to drive around your adult friends in a bike cart!
Materials
- Bean Shopping Cart
- A bike
- 1.5x3 inch steel tube
- 1x1 inch steel tube
- Sheets of plate steel
- 1/4 inch bolt and nut
- Hose
- String
- 1/2 inch solid steel rod
- 4 1/2 inch shaft collars
- 2 wheels with bearings and 1/2 inch bearing
Disassemble the Child Car
I found mine in the trash. There are 4 bolts holding the car to the shopping cart, and 3 bolts on the underside holding the seatbelts in. Remove all of these with a 7/32" hex wrench.
There are also screws holding the yellow top half to the red bottom half. Remove these.
Measuring and Cutting the Frame
These images are hopefully descriptive enough to help you figure out how to measure the frame. It definitely wasn't that easy, but the nice thing is the there's a bit of fudge room to work with, and it doesn't need to be perfect
Welding
We used TIG welding to bond the metals together, and did a bit of grinding afterward to clean up the welds
Powder Coating the Frame
Heat up the frame and coat it in paint! Besides the sweet looks, this is helpful to minimize rusting

Enjoy Being a Kid Again!
The cart held up fine even over 20mph and at 170lb+.
