In this tutorial I wish show you how to make a "Bike Survival Bracelet"
Easy to make, looks good and could even help in case of a survival situation.
I don't carry my smart phone when I ride my bike (even if I did this bracelet could still help) the whistle, the compass and even the cord can be really helpful. I wear it everytime I ride my bike. It's not meant to be a subsitute for smartphones (GPS, 911, etc), just a helpful addition. “Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.”

Materials

For this tutorial you will need:
1 Lighter
2 Scissors
3 Cord-Paracord 8 feet (M) 4x2 10 feet (L) 5x2
4 Whistle Buckle (side release)
5 Compass (watchband compass)
6 Ruler

Buckle

1 Fold your paracord in half and thread the folded loop end through the top of the female end of the buckle
2 Take the loop end and pull it over the top of the female end of the buckle and pull it tight
3 Thread the two loose ends of the cord through the top of the male end of the buckle

Measure Wrist

16, 1:05 PM.jpg

1 Now it is time to find the proper size for your bracelet
2 Wrap the bracelet around your wrist and clasp the buckle
3 Size it so that you can put two fingers underneath the buckle comfortably
4 The bracelet will get tighter as you braid

Knot Tying

16, 2:51 PM.jpg

1 Carefully unbuckle the bracelet and hold the cords so that they do not pull through the buckle You want to maintain the correct length
You will have a left and right cord going through the buckle
2 Drop the right running end over the cord beneath it
3 Then hook it left and through the back of the left crook
4 Tighten firmly

Check my other knotorials for reference: 1 ,2 and 3. Other bracelets, same knot technique. Hope this helps!

Add Compass

16, 1:05 PM.jpg

Insert the compass through all 4 cords, push it from the bottom all the way to the top
You can place the compass wherever you want, at the beginning/top, middle or end/bottom of the bracelet.
I like to place the compass in the middle of the bracelet to give it a watch look to it, plus makes easier to read the compass. To place the compass in the middle knot your half way through the bracelet and then insert it. It all the depends on your wrist size and where you want to place the compass, tie some knots, stop at the middle, insert the compass and keep knot tying. Try it, you can always untie and tie some knots again. It's up to you.

Finish Off

16, 1:05 PM.jpg

1 Now it is time to finish off the bracelet
Turn the bracelet upside down and lift up about two of the last loops
This is so we can tuck the excess cord
You can use a pen or paracord fid to help lift up the loops (I used my scissors)
2 Thread the cords through the loops
*If the center cord is long you can also thread it though the loops along with the left & right cord
3 Pull the cords through tight

Snip & Singe

16, 1:05 PM.jpg

1 Carefully snip and singe the excess cords
2 Use your scissors & your light torch
3 Be careful not to cut or burn yourself
4 After this , the bracelet will have a finished appearance

Variation

16, 1:05 PM.jpg

1 Match bracelet colors (cord, whistle) with your bike colors
2 Make a bracelet without a compass
3 Add more cord to the bracelet to make it wider
4 Add charms?
Endless possibilities. It's up to you!

I matched my bracelet with my bike colors (black and orange) I bought black and orange cord, and also a black-orange whistle buckle. I alert pedestrians with it (I don't have a bell), and keep away dogs that are chasing me, among other uses. I use the whistle more than the compass, but that's my personal choice. It doesn't have to be fancy, just practical and functional. Remember what Franz Kafka said “Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.”

I hope you enjoyed this intractable as much as I enjoyed creating it. If you did or found it useful please vote for me here

Thanks and ride safely!

SURVIVAL- WHISTLE
In a matter of minutes an enjoyable day in the great outdoors can become a life threatening situation. Becoming lost, injured or stranded, your abililty to signal for help is the number one factor in being rescued. Carrying a rescue whistle on your person is an inexpensive and easy way to identify yourself as being in need of rescue and being found.

When it comes down to your life, this simple, but essential Safety Tool is the primary instrument that brings aid to you and your loved ones in a disaster or life-threatening situation.

3-blasts from the whistle is an Internationally Recognized Distress Signal.
Disaster Preparedness
Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes and Fires all create situations where you can quickly become trapped inside a building unable to escape. Choking dust and smoke will limit your ability to call for help and noise from emergency response vehicles can drown out your shouts. During floods, people trapped in attics or behind debris go unnoticed by search teams. Blowing a whistle gets your heard over the roar of a building fire and found dispite vision blocking smoke..

Taping a rescue whistle under your desk makes it quickly available when you take cover for shelter. Carrying another whistle on your key-chain or key-card makes sure you have a signalling device nearby when disaster strikes.
Survival
Crime Prevention / Campus Safety
One of the safest forms of personal protection is a loud whistle. A whistle can't be turned against you like many other personal defense tools. Criminals rely on commiting their acts without drawing attention to themselves. The 120 Decibel blast from our whistle lets people know you need help and deters criminals from carrying out their assault. People have been conditioned to know that the sound from a whistle is a call for action and it instantly gets their attention.

With proper education, children and young adults can be taught to be responsible owners of Safety Whistles and use it only for help when lost or under the threat of abduction to themselves or their friends around them. Campus Safety Programs benefit greatly from this inexpensive and reliable whistle.

SURVIVAL-COMPASS
Hold the compass in your hand. And you'll have to hold it quite flat, so that the compass needle can turn. Then turn yourself, your hand, the entire compass, just make sure the compass housing doesn't turn, and turn it until the compass needle is aligned with the lines inside the compass housing.
