Bike Survival Bracelet

In this tutorial I wish show you how to make a "Bike Survival Bracelet"
Easy to make, looks good and could even help in case of a survival situation.
I don't carry my smart phone when I ride my bike (even if I did this bracelet could still help) the whistle, the compass and even the cord can be really helpful. I wear it everytime I ride my bike. It's not meant to be a subsitute for smartphones (GPS, 911, etc), just a helpful addition. “Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.”

For this tutorial you will need:
1 Lighter
2 Scissors
3 Cord-Paracord 8 feet (M) 4x2 10 feet (L) 5x2
4 Whistle Buckle (side release)
5 Compass (watchband compass)
6 Ruler

1 Fold your paracord in half and thread the folded loop end through the top of the female end of the buckle
2 Take the loop end and pull it over the top of the female end of the buckle and pull it tight
3 Thread the two loose ends of the cord through the top of the male end of the buckle

1 Now it is time to find the proper size for your bracelet
2 Wrap the bracelet around your wrist and clasp the buckle
3 Size it so that you can put two fingers underneath the buckle comfortably
4 The bracelet will get tighter as you braid

1 Carefully unbuckle the bracelet and hold the cords so that they do not pull through the buckle You want to maintain the correct length
You will have a left and right cord going through the buckle
2 Drop the right running end over the cord beneath it
3 Then hook it left and through the back of the left crook
4 Tighten firmly

Insert the compass through all 4 cords, push it from the bottom all the way to the top
You can place the compass wherever you want, at the beginning/top, middle or end/bottom of the bracelet.
I like to place the compass in the middle of the bracelet to give it a watch look to it, plus makes easier to read the compass. To place the compass in the middle knot your half way through the bracelet and then insert it. It all the depends on your wrist size and where you want to place the compass, tie some knots, stop at the middle, insert the compass and keep knot tying. Try it, you can always untie and tie some knots again. It's up to you.

1 Now it is time to finish off the bracelet
Turn the bracelet upside down and lift up about two of the last loops
This is so we can tuck the excess cord
You can use a pen or paracord fid to help lift up the loops (I used my scissors)
2 Thread the cords through the loops
*If the center cord is long you can also thread it though the loops along with the left & right cord
3 Pull the cords through tight

1 Carefully snip and singe the excess cords
2 Use your scissors & your light torch
3 Be careful not to cut or burn yourself
4 After this , the bracelet will have a finished appearance

1 Match bracelet colors (cord, whistle) with your bike colors
2 Make a bracelet without a compass
3 Add more cord to the bracelet to make it wider
4 Add charms?
Endless possibilities. It's up to you!

I matched my bracelet with my bike colors (black and orange) I bought black and orange cord, and also a black-orange whistle buckle. I alert pedestrians with it (I don't have a bell), and keep away dogs that are chasing me, among other uses. I use the whistle more than the compass, but that's my personal choice. It doesn't have to be fancy, just practical and functional. Remember what Franz Kafka said “Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.”

Hold the compass in your hand. And you'll have to hold it quite flat, so that the compass needle can turn. Then turn yourself, your hand, the entire compass, just make sure the compass housing doesn't turn, and turn it until the compass needle is aligned with the lines inside the compass housing.
