I wanted to build a multi functional bicycle trailer that was of course light weight. I picked up an old golf bag caddy for $2 at the thrift store. I used a few other spare parts laying around and I got a very useful end result. Here's how I did it!

Search around at yard sales, thrift stores, or trash night and you'll soon find a golf bag caddy on wheels.

Depending on your hitch system the way you connect it to the bike will change. This golf caddy is made of aluminum. It's very strong and lightweight. There are many easy ways to connect it to your bicycle. That part will be upto you. Here is my hitch system. It's a straight behind style.

Add Luggage Rack Support

I had this nifty little square piece from a ladder on the back of a van. It made a nice cargo hold. You can get clever with that as well. Here is my version. it used about 6 bolts and two extra metal tubes for left to right support.

My favorite is the buddy tag along setup! This is achieved by closing the caddy (normally done to store away) and drilling another hitch connection. See first photo. This setup is the best for hauling a cooler or smaller heavier items. It pulls very nicely behind the bike. You can strap an array of items onto it.
The next setup is the large package or boat hauler design. This is achieved simply by opening the caddy up all the way. My hitch for this trailer is adjustable by 12" to add more length if needed. I don't have pictures of a boat on it because I haven't made the boat that will ride on this. I am making a small coroplast speed boat found on elkinsdiy.com. The bag holder and straps the caddy will help secure it. I also plan to make a sign holder attachment for mobile advertising. Thank you for looking!!!
