Bicycle Mount

This cool project was nothing but fun!

I need every now and then to fix my bike, but sitting on the floor or turning the bike over is not an option for me


I decided to build one

More Stuff needed


2 spare rims ( Got it from a friend of mine )
2 x 1M Threaded rod 1/2
Nuts and Scheibe that will fit the rod - about 40
Loctite glue 
Silicon Glue

3M round Aluminum pole ( diameter of 6cm)
50cm  Aluminum angles - 4x4 
Metal Plate - to put tools on it while working on the bike
12V 5amp Sealed Lead Battery 
12v 3Watt LED
2M Power Cable
Small Switch
4 Brackets
2 Small Plastic Clamps
2 Small Iron Axles Bearings

Add Weight to the Wheels

In order for the base to be steady , i added them lots of rocks from my parents yard.

That way , if i hang the bike on them it won`t move

Remove Balance Weight From the Rims

Each wheel has a Balance Weight .

If you wont remove it , you will have space between the rims and that could affect stability

You can use a regular screwdriver to remove it

Cut Rods According to the Length Needed

Measure the length between one rim and the other.

Accordingly , cut the rod

Attach Both Wheels

In order for us to have a strong steady base.
I attached both of the wheels together , and inserted 4 screws ( rods ) and hooked them together

The rods were closed with nuts and i applied a Loctite glue on them so it wont open due to vibrations




Cutting the Pole

You now need to take the pole your bought , and cut it according to the height you want to bike to be positioned

Now , after it`s inside , it`s a bit shaky.

Will fix it in a jiffy !

I have to expend the size of the hole of this bracket in order for the pole to go threw

We all know how a Bike Mount should look like.

One tube over the other horizontally.

So for that i had to cut the upper side of the tube , and shape it to fit the outer side of the tube ( Round Shape )

It took at least an half an hour just to finish the cutting the grinding with the Dremel Tool

Assembling Upper Tube #1 -Expend Bracket Holes

For the upper tube to sit properly i had an old bed brackets ( 2 in total )

First i had to expend the size of the bracket holes - using the Dremel grinding tool it`s very easy

For upper tube , drill 4 holes ( 2 on each side )

for center tube (below upper ) 2 holes ( one on each side )

Insert Rods , and close tight with nuts


 the rods sticking out of the deice are interrupting me  , So  w`ill have to cut them later

Create a Small Base for Work Plate

I Had an old lamp housing , from that i created a small initial base for the Plate

I thought about it , it is very handy and efficient to have a place to put your tools while you work on your bike
.

So i took from my apartments Oven , and old Plate that we are not using any more .

Polished it a little bit , painted it in black and started to think how in hell do i mount it on the Center Tube.


The solution , cut a hole on the side of the plate  ( Exactly the size of the Tube ).

In order for the Brackets to fit the tube , i had to shape them according to the distance of them from the center.


I used 4 regular 1/8 bolts and nuts to for them

Add 2 Extended Rods to Hold the Bike Steady

If i just put the bike on the stand , it`s fine , but they are still a little shaky .

For example if i spin the wheel the whole bike shake.

 So in order to solve it , i had to create two custom rods , each will grab a different part of the bike.

First rod will grab with clamps the Front Fork

Second rod will grab with clamps the Rear Fork

Drilled on one side of the Tube , and went all the way in to the other side .

On the first time it got a little uneven , but then i drilled again and all went OK,



Then i mounted the Bearing and connected  the rod to it.

I used two rubber from a hose on each side to prevent it from limiting the movement of the Bearing.

I had to use this shrinks in order for the Rod to stay in

I wrapped it with black duck tape to give it width

Create Upper Aluminum Angle for Bike Mount #1

Cut with Tin Snips the measured size of the angle.

Sometimes i want / need to work at night , and the darkness is not that helpful


So i bought a 12 Volt Battery ( Like a motocycle has ) ,12v LED and connected them

 The light is very bright , and according to my calculations the battery could supply voltage for at least 25 hours of constant work  ( on a single charge ).


First i found an old lamp and had to modify it to fit the particular LED .

so i removed the socket and replaced it with a compatible one

then i glued with Silicon the upper case of the lamp to prevent it from water

The battery would be placed beneath the Plate to protect it from water and from direct sun.


It was a little tricky to make this part , since i had to come up with a way that the battery wont move and also it would be accessible to future maintenance  ( such as removal and replace )

Unfortunately i did not take photos of the making of it , but here`s the finished product 

In general what i did was i took two of this white angles and bolts 2 screws to hold them together 

Then i created this 4 aluminum angles , drilled them and connected them together

Run a Cable From Lamp to Battery + Connecting to Switch

It was F ! hard to run the cable inside the tube , but i finally got it and connected it to the Switch and from it to the Battery

And on the go i painted it in black

Add Two Chains to Support the Weight of the Plate

The plate gets a little sinking position once it has too many tools on it ( Weight issue )


So i reinforced it with two small yet strong chains .

Both of the chains are connected from the plate to the center Tube




** Now you can sit a baby on it and it would hold his asss **

Painting in Black + Wrapping With a Waterproof Wallpaper to Pole

I just love the color black , it fits to everything and makes things look way better !

Most of the parts of my bike are also Black , so i decided to paint the Bike Stand also in that color.

And, i wrapped  it with some waterproof wallpaper that i had


Here is the result

As you can see  beneath the battery are the Rods to hold the bike in it`s place. ( Pictures on next stage )

I had to relocate  the rear pole in order for  the bike to be steady

It`s done!


I have changed a bit the location of the  Rods that support the bike 

Now the bike is steady , unmovable , and you can  sit on a chair or stand up and work on it
