Better Makerbot Replicator 2 Buttons

A more permanent solution to crappy soft buttons for your 3D printer.
I've tried the remote button repair kits and other techniques, and they always eventually fail. Adding momentary switches adds a satisfying click to moving through the menu.
At this point you're probably so frustrated with fixing these buttons, I don't need to tell you how to disassemble your LCD panel.

I used the soldering and electronics tools at TechShop to complete this project!

Required Parts and Tools

You will need:
5x momentary push button switches

Bend Momentary Button Connectors

This will make it sit more reliably on the board. Don't worry if the leads on the same side touch, those are already connected.

Solder Onto Button Board

I tinned the pad, held the button on, and soldered. Note the direction to solder on the buttons, if any are turned 90° it will be always on instead of a button.

Cut Jelly Buttons

Cut about half of the inside of the 5 buttons off to make room for the new buttons.

Reassemble and Click Away!
