Happen to have any leftovers from your steak dinner last night? Perfect. This scrumptious sandwich is what you'll have for lunch today..

In this iteration, I put leftover steak and leftover salad into one flavor bursting sandwich. To top it off (quite literally), I will also teach you how to make crispy onions from scratch. Be prepared as this meal is not one for the faint of heart...take caution if you are not into completely awesome, yet unique, delicacies.

Supplies

  • leftover steak
  • leftover salad
  • teriyaki sauce (or BBQ)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • salt
  • pepper
  • paprika
  • garlic powder
  • minced garlic
  • 2 slices of bread
  • slice of mozzarella cheese

Chop and Soak Onions

Chop the ends off your onion and peel off the skin. From there, chop circular cross sections off as about 4 mm thick. I used about 1/2 of a medium onion, but you can make more or less depending on your preference. Soak the chopped onions in a bowl of milk for about 5 minutes. This will help the flour to stick to the membrane of the onion without slipping off.

Dredge and Fry!

Mix the flour and your spices into a bowl (about a tsp of each spice). Toss the soaked onions in and coat them completely. Trick: Put the onions into the flour bowl, put a plate facedown over the top, and shake while clamping the plate down...or use a large zip lock baggie. Heat your oil on medium high heat and toss your onions in. Don't move them around too much until the flour coating is relatively solidified. Remove them from the oil when they are golden brown and crisp.

Garlic Bread Buns!

Spread melted butter onto both sides of your bread. Spread minced garlic on the inner side of both pieces of the bread. Toast both sides of your bread until crispy. I also added a slice of mozzarella cheese...yum

Add Leftover Salad

Add the leftover salad to the bottom slice...if you don't have salad, feel free to use romaine lettuce or any leafy greens you have in your fridge.

LEFTOVER STEAK

Slice your steak and rest each piece on the nice bed of salad. I added a little bit of teriyaki sauce for some flavor, but feel free to make the sandwich your own...steak sauce, BBQ sauce, the sky is the limit.

Can't Forget Those Crispy Onions

Generously stack the crispy onions over the steak...these alone make the sandwich worth your while. Don't hold back on them. Seriously.

FINISHED

Top the sandwich off with the final slice of bread. Oh my. Doesn't that look delicious. Go ahead...you deserve it.
