Cream Butter and Sugars

Preheat the oven to 350 F/176 C.

Add the softened butter to a large mixing bowl as well as the brown sugar and the white sugar. Then mix until well combined with a hand mixer or stand mixer. Or if you don't have a mixer you can just use a wooden spoon.

TIP: If you forget to set your butter out at room temperature to soften, you can soften it in your oven or microwave.

Eggsellent Ingredients

Now add the vanilla extract and the eggs and mix those in until combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula as needed to make sure all the ingredients get mixed in properly.

NOTE: While you can leave the vanilla extract out, I don't recommend it. The vanilla adds so much flavor as well as enhances the flavor of the other ingredients.

Finish That Cookie Dough

In a separate medium bowl whisk or sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda.

Then add it about a third at a time mixing it into the main bowl. Before adding the last bit of flour, add your chocolate chips, the star of the dish.

The cookie dough will be nice and thick.

Bake Those Cookies

Using two tablespoons scoop out a bit of dough and roughly shape it into a ball and place it on a sheet pan lined with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.

NOTE: I definitely recommend picking up a silicone baking mat if you bake a lot of cookies. It makes the cookies bake that much better.

You should be able to get about 12 of them on one standard cookie sheet or baking sheet.

Bake for 10 to 16 minutes until slightly golden brown on the edges. If you want them more crunchy/crispy bake them until they are browner. If you want them more soft and gooey, bake them less time. In my oven 14 to 15 minutes for 12 large cookies does the trick.

Cool and Serve

Once they come out of the oven allow the cookies to cool for just a few minutes on the cookie sheet. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notice the nice color on the bottom of the cookies.
